The new Scirocco looks quite good, maybe I'll reserve judgement untill I see it in the flesh.

Elitist much? I guess we can just write off 30 years of the GTI, a car that revolutionized the hot hatch market. Hell, it created the market. Then there's the Scirocco and Corrado, two amazing cars. What would rich high school girls drive if the Cabriolet wasn't around?

I drove VWs for ten years before I got my 128i, and I loved the cars. If it wasn't for a car accident, I probably would have kept my 2006 GTI for at least a few more years. Eventually, I'm going to get another Mk3 GTI VR6.

Not at all; I've been in some stock and heavily modified GTI's, and they just didn't feel very nice. Plus, IMHO they look like an egg that fell off the ugly tree.

now now...I know that we all own the ultimate driving machine here...
but VW is the car of the people and IMHO if there was a car I had to live with...it would be the GTi or even Rabbit...

I came from a rabbit into the 1 and you have got to give it to a company that can take a 5 cyl CVT and throw 170Hp in it and charge you $15K out the door...

Vw will always be the peoples car and it is a shame so many were damaged....

now imagine if that were 30K bimmers

IMO, VW's (and Audis) have way better interior fit and finish than BMWs. The R32 is a great little car. Saying that "VW hasn't made anything good in the last 30 years", without the "IMO" is a bit trollish.

VW is having an identity crisis right now though, that they want to break into near luxury, which steps directly on the toes of Audi. They are about to release a new high end passat, which is strange to me after the W8 Passat as well as the Phaeton were pretty dismal sale failures...

Larryn,

Ill waive my VAG flag in salute of your comments...

You are correct about the r32. if it had the 2 liter motor with the bigger turbo found on the s3 and a manual transmission, i would probably have picked it over the 1. Motor has a ridiculous amount of pull for such small displacement. It would be just as good if they would flip the engine the correct way and made it rwd.

Ah Hell...bringing the s3 over would be even better, but they have their heads so far up their arses that they would price way above market.

The passat CC is beat.

i had a 03 VW GTI that was featured in Eurotuner before i bought my 135i. I would still have it today if i didnt total it last Sepetember... I knew i was going to get this car the day i wrecked mine but i still wish i had the both of them. Vw makes some awesome cas, the 1.8T motor has been praised by many many people and magazines as being an amazing motor. Not to mention the VW community has some of the best people i have ever met and by far exceed those of many other car communities...

Drive the GTI with DSG and you'll immediately feel how useless and redundant the 3rd paddle is on every car with a last century manual transmission.

I am wondering if you mean "pedal" when you typed "paddle". :iono:
