Picked up my 128i (with pics)

Well, it happened last Friday. I picked up my SGM 128is at the Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC. First of all, PCD is an absolutely amazing experience and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable, accomodating and informative. I could go on and on about this but some have already written about this and there isn't a whole lot more I can add except that those picking up a 1 series get to drive a Sedona Red 135i with an automatic transmission, sports pack, navigation, etc. (loaded). Even the staff at PCD are in love with this car.

Now to the 128. It is everything I hoped for and then some. I am having a hard time judging it against the 135 because the 135 was automatic and mine is manual. There is no denying that the 135 has that crazy raw power that comes with the twin turbos. However, the 128 is no slouch either. Although I have been watching the rpms closely (750 miles on it so far), it pulls like crazy and at no point in time did the thought of "I wish I had more power" cross my mind.

Over the weekend, I had four adults in the car and there was enough room for everyone (all are 6 foot or shorter). I had 3 medium sized bags in teh trunk, cameras, two tripods and some other junk and it fit perfectly.

Yesterday, I put in a child seat and took wifey and my 8 month old son for a spin - also no problems. He is still in a rear facing seat which takes up a lot of room and it fairly bulky (Graco seat, for those of you who care about this). Wifey had to push her seat forward a bit (she is 5'4'') but said she was comfortable.

Here are some random thoughts:
- sport seats are nothing short of amazing and I would have paid $1,200 just for the seats
- I noticed that my back sweats significantly more (I have black leatherette)
- iDrive is great and I love it! I did take almost two hours with the Client Advisor at PCD, which made all the difference in terms of learning the system
- Comfort Access is one of my favorite options
- iPod option is really neat and the sound quality is very good (3rd gen iPod)
- bluetooth works well with my Sony Ericsson K770i cellphone (uploaded my contacts without any problems)
- wife called me this morning after I pulled out of the driveway and commented on the sound of the engine (btw, she is not a car person at all)

All in all, I am really stoked! The 128 is absolutely perfect for me and I hit the nail on the head with all of the options.

Should have got the leather instead of the Idrive. That leatherette gets HOT and sticky. Shame it is an expensive upgrade but the sport package and leather are musts for me.

BTW, you did pay 1200 just for the seats. There are not great differences and no suspension changes with the sport package. They just make the stock seats so crappy so everyone wants to upgrade.

Enjoy the car.

On the 128i there is a suspension upgrade as well as a wheel upgrade besides the seats and shadowline trim.

Sports pack comes with sport seats, upgraded suspension, shadowline trim and upgraded wheels/tires.

Thanks. I will definitely enjoy it!

Congrats! Looking good

You had 4 adults in there? I can't imagine riding in the back ever. I get clostraphobic just washing the inside rear windows on my E92

Yep, there was 4 of us in there and I didn't get any complaints. I think that would probably change if a longer trip were involved.

128er - I have a ton of pictures but they are all 2 megs or more in size (high resolution) and the site won't let me upload them. Anything specific you want to see (and I'll resize them and post them)?

Some interior pics would be great, a pic that is looking straight at the front, a rear photo, and maybe some night pics

How do you like the walnut trim with the black interior? I saw one with the taupe interior and it wasn't so great.
