I just happened to see the two colors side my side this past Saturday.

My son and I agreed that the Crimson is a little more orange, and the Imola is a little more Tomatoey color. The Imola was definetely the darker of the two.

The Crimson does not looked washed out. On the contrary, it's quite bright.

There's a few Imola Red M3s running around here, even one parked in my view as I sit here. They always look a bit dull to me. On the other hand, the Crimson Red is very alive. Best red though is from Ducati and the red on my MV Agusta of course! I'm sure the Imola Red looks good when polished and waxed. Worst red in my opinion is the MINI red. Very flat in color.

The difference I think is that Crimson is not a metallic color. Non metallic colors take to waxing and buffing better. Metallics, IMHO, seem to get this dull look after a while.

Fact is you hardly ever see a classic car with metallic paints and that's for the reason I just described.

I think Crimson is a worthy successor to Imola. In fact I'd say Crimson is closer to the Birght Red that was available on E46 coupes.

From the photos, Crimson looks really impressive on the 1er. Given it's similarity to the E46 coupe, I expect it to be stunning.

Had a neighbor with an E46 coupe in Imola red - easily one of most eye catching coupes I've ever seen (Astons and Ferraris aside...).

My 1er will most likely be Crimson with a black interior. Simple. Classic. Striking.

I couldn't agree more! Every photo I see of a Crimson Red 1er next to another 1er color proves that point to me and then some. Some other colors are nice, but the CR is so alive and aggressive, which seems to [me] fit the car better. I also like all colors that produce a contrast to the shadowline trim and diffuser. Overall I really like the non-metallic colors best. I'd pick any of those over the metallics. All personal choice.

Together with the mods, it will be a striking appearance I think

I'm planning the Performance front & backbumper along with the sideskirts, and the rims from the 1 hatch Limited edition from BMW Motorsport

Don't have the better pictures with me, but here is what my Imola Red ZHP looked like... Imola was a darker, deeper shade of red than Crimson - if Imola were offered on the 1, I'd get that in a heartbeat.

Edit: Obviously, the 2nd pic is not an accurate representation of the color... =)

Couldn't agree more. It's a really nice feature. Unfortunately (sort of...) I've talked myself into the 128i, which doesn't have the diffuser...

BTW, does the diffuser actually produce downforce on the 135i, or is it (dare I say) just as design feature?
