Bmw 135i vs Mini Cooper S R56
Anyone know how these two stack up against eachother? and if they share any similarites at all? i was talking to the Bmw sales rep and was asking if the 335i was like 135i at all because i figured they shared the same platform, which i belive they do correct me if im wrong, and he was like driving a 335 wouldnt give you a idea of the 135i, he said it more closely related to the mini cooper s, he said they share the same platform and the driving is more closly related. anyone know if he's right? also i was wondering what mechanical similiarites their might be, if any? for ex maybe like the electronic throttle from the mini. also a little off this topic, but the foot well for the driver seems a tad snug from what i can see in the pics, and coming from a r56 mini (long story) the foot well was quite comfortable for a car thats 10 inches less in width and 30 inches less in lenght. and yes i do relize that these two cars do differ majorly in some places. i just get a weird feeling like the two are related in some way.

No - the 135i shares suspension bits with the 335i - it shares no major componetry with the Mini AFAIK. Foot well is fine - heck of a lot better than my Miata. ; -)

What the salesman was probably trying to say is that the 135i would drive more like the MINI than the 335i (i.e. more pointy and aggressive). As hugo just pointed out, the 135i shares nothing mechanically in the chassis or engine with the MINI.

RWD--FWD. HUGE diffrence.
I like them both. I hate torque steer and i hear Mini S has it rather bad. No doubt the 1er is a much better car. Even the 128 is loads better then the S. Not saying the S is a bad car, just two diffrent levels. |

In the Bimmerfile review, the author seems to find it easier to compare the 135's handling to a Cooper S vs. the larger BMW's.
That is a very good thing in my book, plus you get RWD and loads of hp. http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/02/17...view-bmw-135i/

I have owned MINIs since April 05 and had a 335i for one year before dumping it for a couple of X5s. The 135i will be picked up on March 26th. I'll let you know how they all three compare.
As for torque steer of the MINI, that can be minimualized with no real issue. I love my MINIS...and 05 MCS Cabrio and an 07 MCS. I felted the 335i didn't meet any of my expectations and moved on real quick. I can hardly wait for the 135i as I expect something inbetween the MINI and the 335i. My 135i will be used mostly for tracking so I'm looking to tune the jewel upwards to 400...we will see. KK |
