Custom Colors

Are their any 'custom' colors available for the 1? If so any idea of cost?

And even in the UK, there is no Individual Programme for the 1. I wanted Ruby Red Metalic....

... and I wanted Tahiti green.

Do you think that with the ED program a custom color is possible?

I asked about getting mine painted Space Grey. They initially told me it was not an option, but I kept insisting.... so my dealer kept going up the chain. BMW finally quoted a price of approx. $10,000! Needless to say, I passed on the offer..... :eyebulge:

In fact, Audi offer a wide range of options in the "Audi Exclusive" range - exterior and interior. I think BMW miss a trick here.

Depending on the dealer it may be true, OR since you kept insisting, they threw out a number they assessed was above what you would be willing to pay just to get you to pass on it and not bring it up. I would like to have seen their face if you had initially said, yeah, I'll do it, then later "reconsider".

I know my dealer has done it for people before. They have to stop the assembly line and move your car back and forth from one line ot the other. BIG MONEY.

If I had known I was going to purchase rather than lease, I would have done it for Tahiti Green.

IIRC, it was multiple thousands for the last person that had it done. I want to say $4k, but I'm not sure.

That's not exactly true, I'm afraid. Unless they agreed to some special paint that lies outside the regular paint process (different flakes, or multiple layers, or totally different primer) - it all goes on the regular assembly line.

When in Munich, I personally saw cars coming out of the paint booths in various colors, one right after the other. So I'm pretty sure that if you request something from the regular BMW pallette it would go right into the middle of the regular production.

The last time I heard about special paint was in the E46/E39 cars. I know several M3's painted in special colors - whether from a different series pallette, or from the Individual choices. If the dealer didn't overcharge you for this - which is entirely possible if you wanted an exclusive color - then you'd pay around $2200-2500 for the priviledge.

BMW also said no to these types of customization for Euro Delivery in the last years when they still offered the choice. Not sure why, they just did.

So in other words, BMW could simply enable more paint options for US ordering, but at this time they've chosen not to. :iono:
