Small tidbit concerning "year one of the one"
I remember a thread on here a week or two ago talking about BMW including some freebies with the purchase of a 1er during its first year of production. I haven't seen this here before, so I thought I'd mention it here.
"One of the cooler things BMW is doing with the 1 is the launch campaign. They call it "Year One of the 1" and everyone who buys either a 128i or 135i this year also receives a commemorative 1 Series book, certificate of authenticity, reproduction VIN plate and specially engraved trim ring around the engine start button - "Year One of the 1", naturally." This has been mentioned some months ago with the report largely, if not, completely ignored. It would be quite kool to have a coffee-table type book to prominently place on the, uh, coffee-table. The VIN bit, however, is new, at least to me. As for the trim ring, some folks don't care for the thing, what are you going to do?:iono: :wink:It's just accessorizing your ride. Tim Allen would go ape.

Is anyone else concerned that if the early 1 series have reliability issues that the "year one of the 1" ring will be a tell for it and hurt that car when it comes time to sell it?-way way way down the road of course

No. The components, except for the digital LSD, have been sufficiently thrashed in the 3 series. And tweaking the LSD, if ever required, is probably just a firmware update, no wrenches required.

I've got a pre-production version of the book. It's a really nice collection of essay's and info about the car.
I was planning on taking so pics and posting it on BimmerFile next week. |

Not at all. The car has been established in Europe and the engine has been in the 335. Not much, if any, of the 1 is entirely new. I for one have no worries of reliability and residuals.
