So do we think there will still be an M1? I guess that means no clubsport type version.

Best concrete info I got from bmw on the m1 is in the car and driver review where a bmw rep said "there is always room for improvement..."

the m1 was created years ago already. It was kinda like BMW's super sports car at the time. I very much doubt they would have an M1 in their 1 series. The M1 is like a R1 sports bike as a M6 is to an R6 sports bike if it makes any since. Though i know the M6 would crushed the older M1, if they were to make an M1 today it would probably have a v10 twin turbo engine.

The 135i is the m1. BMW is not going to bother making a 1 series M car. There are already too many M models out now.

It would also be really hard to get the pricing and configuration right to the point that it doesn't poach the m3.

'Scott26' hinted at a performance model above the 135i - my hope is they stuff the twin turbo V8 from the X6 in the 1er. Hell - then they can put oil coolers in each wheel well rather than the one or none we're seeing now. ; -)

i can see BMW making a trim level of the 135i called the M1... comes with different wheels, brakes, front lip, suspension.... nothing major on the motor, basically a bit more of a track inspired car...

I'm actually GLAD the Tii isnt going into production. As a whole I didnt like how it looked. BMW is EXCELLENT at marketing vehicles. Now that they crossed off the ''tii'' name maybe they will name the car an //M. I think I'll start a poll.

lol no problem! i was surprised it didn't get more comment when he posted it. :drinking:

edit: i'm actually agnostic as to whether a new performance 1er will show. as hugo mentioned the tii isn't planned at this point and scott26 has hinted at something (who knows what market). i AM certain that we won't hear anything about it til after the launch date of the 135i and after the performance parts have been out a while...if it even happens.

It wouldn't necessarily poach the M3

That would depend on pricing. I, for one, would never buy an M3 because it's too big. But if I could get a car the size of the 135 with M performance, I'd be interested. BMW could equip the cars identically, and price them about the same because the money isn't in the cubic inches of air between the front seat and the back seat.

Exactly, everyone the price wouldn't be far from an m3, and wouldn't be worth anyone's while. Hey everyone, enjoy your 135i, and don't complain about the lack of an M model.

of course if the 135 went bye-bye in the future then there would be room. complete speculation on my part of course. (i.e. throw the 335 engine in the 1er as a quick way to establish a new lower-tier series in the US then later transition to a M version and a regular 130 or 128 or whatever) again ... complete unsubstantiated bs speculation on my part

if a 1 series M was priced at almost the same level als an M3. They will never sell many of them. Also M want to make profit out it s models.

The mass people who are in the market for a fast 1 series will not pay more than the already expensive 135i.

When they brought the 135i i was almost certain that no M model was comming anymore.

I have chosen the 135i and i am happy with it. With a few tweaks you can make youre self a very good car for less money than an very expensive M model

Scott26 mentioned something in his most recent post that, for me, would be perfect. He said the the 4 cylinder engine from the 320si was going to be placed in the 1-Series. This would be sporty enough for me and, with today's gas prices, frugal. I know this sounds crazy, but I'm actually considering a VW GLI. It's a German sports sedan with a nice 4 cylinder engine. Obviously, reliability would be a concern.
