- New Facility will “Factory Install” a Range of Vehicle Accessories on the BMW Sports Activity Vehicles Built Nearby at Plant Spartanburg.
- Factory Installation Prior to Dealer Delivery Streamlines the Accessories Installation Process and Shortens Delivery Times, Benefitting Both Dealers and Customers.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ and Greer, SC – November 14, 2022… BMW of North America announced today the official opening of a new Vehicle Accessories Center in Greer, SC which will enable the company to “factory install” a range of vehicle accessories on the BMW Sports Activity Vehicles built nearby at Plant Spartanburg prior to the vehicles being delivered to dealers. The new 60,000-square-foot facility represents an investment of nearly $25 million and creates about 60 new jobs.

The BMW Vehicles Accessories Center will support all 350 BMW dealers nationwide by installing a full range of exterior and interior accessories including wheels, body parts, decals, M Performance parts, interior trim pieces, floormats, roof accessories, and more.

“This new vehicle accessories center embodies our commitment to delivering the best premium customer experience in the industry,” said Sebastian Mackensen, President & CEO, BMW of North America. “By factory installing accessories before delivery to the dealer, vehicles arrive already as ordered by customers. This will provide for a more efficient process and quicker delivery times for our customers.”

The facility specifically supports Plant Spartanburg, which currently builds approximately 60% of the BMWs sold in the U.S., including the best-selling BMW X3,

BMW X5, and BMW X7. The Plant will begin production of the newest BMW X model, the first-ever BMW XM, this December.

I wonder if they'll run cars that come over from Germany thru this facility as well? At least the ones that disembark the ship in Charleston, Brunswick or Jacksonville?

Not sure about that.

I bet you'll see a ton of the F150 pickup trucks come next year with the ID-8 dash.

No point in that i think, biggest vdc they have is in brunswick already, I think this is just for the x cars so they don't have to ship them to a vdc first and can just ship to dealers direct, makes logistics more streamlined.

I could've sworn Charleston landings were only for the performance delivery vehicles, but don't quote me on that and they do the processing right at the performance center for those. Before the boat picks up suvs for other markets (which is why it goes to brunswick first to make room)

As far as jacksonville... I thought bmw pulled out of there like 40 years ago (has anyone had a car with a port of entry there recently?)

So you're acknowledging you have zero first hand knowledge on the topic. Got it.

Idk wouldn't you call knowledge from the source first hand? Better than no knowledge in any case.

No. First hand knowledge is held by the person who witnessed the occurrence directly. Just hearing it from them is second hand knowledge, aka: hearsay.

BMW may not be in Jax but the K-line that carries a lot of our BMWs most def makes a stop in Jax on almost every trip.

Does seeing a garbage bin of trashed parts at the vdc count then?

Must be dropping or picking up something else then? I know vw uses Jax, doing some research shows bmw gave up Jax in favor of brunswick. Now you've made me curious what happens there lol.

Came to find out what kind of accessories need a dedicated installation center. Still don't know.

Bonus: I also still don't know what they do with leftover parts, but I know it's a touchy topic with at least one guy in the thread (and probably just the one guy, period).

Not anymore. Most Kline ships are skipping JAX and no longer delivering BMW there. Usually Baltimore, Brunswick and Charleston. Same with WW ships. Just been tracking these ships for the past 2 months. Mine finally arrived at Brunswick last wk. Maybe the port congestion at JAX was too much for them I guess or it was primaroly for other manufacturers.

The thing is one can install most of M performance parts himself or do it in a local shop. Couple of years back I asked my neighborhood shop to put akrapovic exhaust on my M6. He did a good job and asked for a mind blowing price of 75 bucks!
I gave him 100
and no , the exhaust didn't fall off for the next 4 years that i owned the car!

And, with mats, all they do is throw them in the back of the car in the same bags they come in from the dealership. Big deal.

We used to get the original parts back in the port-installed cars. Things like black grilles and hubcaps. These days the only parts coming back in the car are the 50th-Anniversary hubcaps when someone orders the "spinning" self-centering caps to replace those.

So can we buy M Performance parts, and have them installed on our cars? Say I want the car on Fiber roof? 🙂
