Up in Smoke

We're burning up here in California. Still another fire started yesterday, east of Sacramento, the Caldor fire. Super hot with huge, high flames. More evacuations.

Wow crazy. Was visiting family in Sactown over the weekend and it was already super hot. Can’t imagine what it’s like with the fire. Air quality is shit now and will likely be affected this weekend.

The entire state seems to be one gigantic fire over the past few years. It's startling.

I'm pretty naive with fires like this. Are most started by careless smokers? Arson? The world spontaneously combusting?

Draught and dry conditions where lightening strikes, careless smokers, even catalytic converters will pretty much start it if you've driven for a bit then park in some grass.

This. My friend who lives in CA says a lot of the time it's crappy power lines.

We were in some area I think in Oregon in 2019 that had some wild fires going and the sky and everything was just full of smoke. It was horrible I don't know how people can live like that.

Nothing significant in SoCal yet, but I'm sure come Sept/Oct there will be.

I remember last year for a solid week it was smokey out. Couldn't even see the beach from PCH.

CA is a crazy state; at one point it was on fire, flooding, snowing, and suffering droughts all at the same time.

Best of luck!

Came in here to see a YouTube clip of Cheech and Chong. Those wildfires are nuts. A couple weeks back the sky here was a hazy orange and I could swear I smelled smoke. They said it was from the wildfires in California and Canada

This site is weather, but it has a fire overlay you can click on in the lower right of the screen to see fires around the world.

This is how it is in CA now. Where I grew up in the foothills we would get snow 4-5 times a year, they haven't had snow since 2013. And before that it was already down to 1-2 times a year. To see the weather change in just 20 or so years is shocking.
