Having 2nd thoughts about an option...
I just ordered my M3 coupe less than a week ago, and I'm having 2nd thoughts about one of my choices for the interior.
Right now what I've ordered is: Space Grey coupe, 19" wheels, Fox red novillo leather, with the brushed aluminum trim. I'm wondering what you guys think of the aluminum trim...I saw an 09 convertible at the dealer with the carbon leather trim (not red leather) and thought that it looked nice. Sometimes I really like the aluminum, other times I think that it looks a little cheap. I'm also wondering if it will get wicked hot in the summer. I'm also concerned that it may start to show it's age more quickly than the carbon leather trim. I've attached some pics for comparison....let me know what you think. If I'm going to change it, I think that I need to change it before I get a production number. Right now I have a build week of Nov 9th. Thanks |

I LOVE the aluminum. It's not that cheesy, fake looking stuff.
It also adds a little contrast to the car, especially since the center console is black regardless of what trim you get. I really would have preferred the aluminum on the center console too, like in the regular E92's.

not sure if it late to change your order
but IMO the CF leather trim gives the new edge to the new //M but Aluminum is ok too

i think the carbon leather looks great if you have the carbon fiber roof
which as i understand, you do i think it kind of sets a theme i got mine with carbon leather with the cf roof in either case there is no wrong choice the only wrong choice is if you had chosen the wood option both of these options will look great don't fret about it and look forward to your M3! |

Aluminum gives good contrast in pics and also when looking in from the outside. Carbon leather looks better inside the cockpit, where you'll be spending all your time. Your new car deserves new interior trim. Carbon leather is the latest. I'm personally regretting not ordering it and now have to pay $100 over the option price just to have my pieces wrapped. Ordered my car with the shadow trim, BTW.

Aluminum also gets scratched easily.

I've always really liked aluminum trim and had it on my E46 M3 and E90 335 (both with black leather), but decided to make a change to the carbon leather for the E90 M3 and really like it. I don't really like the blue tint they added to the new aluminum trim either.
For your particular interior/exterior colors I would go with carbon leather trim. |

I went with the Carbon Leather Trim. I thought it looked best with Fox Red. You can get the brushed aluminum trim with all the standard 3 series. The Carbon Leather trim is only an option to the M3 (Just thought I toss that out there).

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. The poll here, and on another forum, were both overwhelmingly in favor of the CF. After some further thought, I have to say that I agree.
I think that the aluminum looks striking at first glance, but I think that it gets less impressive the more I look at it. Also, dings and scratches really catch my eye. As soon as that aluminum gets scratched, I just know that I'll see it every time I get in my car. It'll drive me bonkers. I like the idea of continuing the Carbon Fiber roof motif into the inside of the car. I've put in an e-mail to my CA to switch to the CF trim. Hopefully I'm not too late. Thanks again. |
