I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!! (long)
I just got done ordering my M3!
My first car was a crappy 1979 320i (I was 16 in 1990). There was very little nice about the car. Vinyl seats, power nothing, no sunroof, and heat poured into the passenger compartment from somewhere. So much so, that I would usually keep the windows cracked in the winter to keep it from getting too hot inside. I would have to replace the exhaust gaskets every year or so or else it would sound like a lawn mower going down the road after it repeatedly burned them up. I had to add a leaded fuel additive with each fill up since leaded fuel was no longer available. During the summer, I could only buy Whale brand gasoline (I think it didn't have any ethanol in it). Otherwise, I had to park on a hill so I could pop the clutch to get it to start when it was hot outside. Terrible car right? WRONG! That thing was more fun to drive than any other car I have owned since. Ever since then, I've wanted an M3 and today I took the leap. On top of that, I got a pretty damn good deal...I think. Here she is: 2009 Coupe
Invoice and MSRP (per Edmunds and the price listing here) is $66,585 and 72,325 respectively. I e-mailed every dealership within easy driving distance with my specs and asked for their price. The responses and phone calls were immediate (literally 15 minutes) from the out of town dealerships with some pretty good and not so good offers ranging from $1000 over invoice to $4000 over invoice. But I heard nothing from my local dealer. Then, early the next morning, my local dealer set the mark...$750 over invoice! I was in. I set an appointment. Then I began to have some trepidation. This is really my first new car purchase. I was worried about the extra fees etc that you always hear about. Was my sweet deal about to turn into a not-so-sweet deal after all was said and done. I did some research and tried to determine which (if any) fees were bogus or could be negotiable and tried to tell myself that I was going to be tough when those fees popped up. So, I stroll in today to see my salesperson (I'd met her once before for a test drive of an 08). She's hot...tall, blond, eastern European (complete w/ accent), and stacked. But that's beside the point... She pulls out the contract and there they are...MACO ($300), Training fee ($185, i think), and two Dealer Charges ($99.85 & $399.40). I do my amateurish best to get her to remove/reduce some of these fees, but she won't budge. I want to threaten to leave, but, to be honest, this was still the best offer that I had and it's 10 minutes from my house. I try to negotiate some freebies and eventually get her to throw in some M floor mats for free. I took the deal. I'm not the toughest negotiator, for sure, but I still ended up, fees and all, paying $1230 over invoice or $4510 under MSRP on a built to order 09 DCT Coupe. After Tax, Title, and License I'm still paying just slightly less than MSRP. Now I can't wait until I get a production date and number so I can start obsessively tracking my M3... |

In fact it was a kind of flat, light blue. It's hard to exactly describe it...not blue, not really light blue, not baby blue. At the time, I refered to it as "import blue" because it was a color that seemed to be fairly common on European imports (volvos specifically) at that time.
Dascamel, one of my best buddies lives in Bakersfield as well. How big is Bakersfield anyway? |

Sounds like a really good deal on an 09. Sometimes, it ain't worth the hassle to save a few hundred bucks. Overall I think it's a win.

I don't have an exact production date yet. I did just place the order today. All I know so far is production "In November" and delivery "In December". That seems a little fast to me. I don't expect to see it until sometime in January.

I've heard Regensburg factory is closed first week of November, so week 46 should be first available build week. That would make about a between Christmas and new year delivery. Good luck.
Just a guess. Last edited by guardodoc; 10-20-2008 at 06:35 PM.. Reason: clarification |

Delivery between Christmas and New Years would be great for me, I happen to be off work that week. Of course, the roads here may be for sh*t that week, but at least it would give me time to figure out the iDrive.

Man, the way you describe it, the color was probably a match. I wish I had a pic here. Is your buddy in Bakersfield into cars?

You may have tried to walk out and she would have likely reeled you back in with a concession, but I'd say you got a good deal. All in all, you're happy with the price, no hassles (which happens all the time) - so good deal.
Enjoy the ride. Helluva Christmas gift. |

You can't post a thread like that without pics??? Are you new to forums?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Good stuff!
