CarPlay iOS 13 overview iDrive 6

I recently updated my iPhone to the iOS 13 Developers Beta and uploaded a video to Youtube showing some of the new looks and features of the new version of CarPlay. I've seen some others post videos of iOS 13 CarPlay in BMW and it's fullscreen, however they had iDrive 7 and I have iDrive 6. Please check out my video, Like, Comment and Subscribe.

Very impressive. It also helps that you have a touch screen. I wonder if a touch screen can be retrofitted to an NBT system.

I honestly don't use the touchscreen much, I almost always use the iDrive controller.

Thanks - that was very informative. I wish we had the option to take it full screen, but it must be a limitation of iDrive 6.

I'm thinking that it will come in an update from BMW. Apple mentioned in their keynote that iOS 13 supports larger displays and even their press photos showed it working on them. I wonder if owners with a newer build of iDrive 6 have the ability to go full screen?

one thing i noticed about ios13, you loose the tone notifications in navigation mode. with ios12 and older, i can hear and see text notifications.

I don't remember hearing tones when getting a text message in iOS 12 CarPlay.

I don't remember hearing tones when getting a text message in iOS 12 CarPlay.

Try it with a destination set. You'll hear the text tone come through your speakers 😇

I finally got around to getting full-screen CarPlay on a 2018 X5 and it is totally worth it with the combination of iOS13. I don't use the Connected Apps at all for anything. Even for Sirius XM, I use the iOS App. I also find the audio quality of the iOS Apps better.

I also coded the ability to view the full-text message and Siri works fine as well.

I love it that it is wireless AND now with full-screen iDrive 6 is pretty amazing and only missing gesture control.

I used a guy in the forums named kubax86 Price was great and the instructions were simple and easy to follow. Good communication with kubax86 too

I highly recommend anyone considering this update to full screen iOS. The performance is snappy and makes the Infotainment system so much better. In fact. Some reasons I like it:

1. I can now use CarPlay as my default screen (split-screen view built into the UX)

2. I have Waze as the general map open since it shows all the speed traps, cops etc. Very useful.

3. Easy to switch to any music source - I use a combination of Apple Music and Sirrius XM - both using apps. I noticed that the volume is lower than the default radio, but the audio quality seems to have a better dynamic range.

4. Ability to handle Zoom and phone calls from the same UX is great.

5. I prefer to use the touch-screen since it is just faster....

Highly recommend.

From the thread, it looks like CarPlay was installed after-market. In my case, CarPlay was already working and the only thing that has changed is that CarPlay takes the full screen. Also, iDrive is a software install. Reinstalling the software should return it to factory settings.

Even if something like that happen it is easily fixable. There is NO possiblity that iDrive will brick because of CarPlay activation
