Ordering new OEM leather skins from BMW

Has anyone done this before, is it possible? My drivers seat is a bit worn and at some point I'll want to re-cover it.

Probably better to find a salvage car or someone parting out seats on here.

People have done it before. It's not cheap but if your leather is totally shot, and you can't source some lightly used ones locally, it might be the only option.

Just do your homework and find a really good auto upholstery/interior shop to reinstall them for you.

I did seat covers often under warranty on Cadillac's and didn't find them that bad to do as far as labor. The biggest issues is getting them to look as factory without creases. Alot of times you have to change the foam too so it fills out the new leather better.

find a leather repair company it will be alot cheaper... you can youtube on how its done..

cardealership use this method to get the seats looking new...

if the seat has rips and tears then yes replace...

but if it is worn it can be saved and redyed

I had the back of my drivers seat replaced because of a tear in the bolster. The dealer I had purchased it from had tried a repair, but that failed after a month or two of my having the car. They agreed to install the cover if I bought the part. They had looked into a local interior shop repairing the old one, but as there is an airbag in the seat, there was some hesitation. They had to dye the seat bottom of the drivers seat to get a good match.

Lucki, I' def talk to a leather repair shop. They can change complete pieces of the seat looking like brand. Surely at a fraction of the cost compared to what BMW can do, if tgey can do anything at all except selling you a new seat all together.

My guy wanted to replace my enterance side bolster part, believe it was 300Euros. Sorted by repair at half cost though.

Good luck!

leather covers can definately be sourced from BMW. We order new covers all the time in the auto body repair industry. If the color is individual, they will be special order and take awhile to get in.

This. New covers can still be ordered for these cars. They are still very expensive at about $2000 per seat for the upper and lower leather and as you have to disassemble the seat, it's not really a DIY task. Having a qualified custom shop do it with equal quality leather would cost even more, and not many shops would be able to pull it off. Look for a good restoration shop to repair what you have, or buy used seats in better condition.
