105,000 Miles on '09 e92 M3. Time to sell?
I have been thinking about how many miles I have on this car, and wondering when I am going to start hitting big repair bills. I have heard motor rebuilds are $25,000. If I keep driving this car the way I have, I will probably be at 150,000 miles in a few more years. How long do these motors go before a rebuild is necessary? Don't want to keep pouring money into this car.

Inexpensive higher mileage examples are great cars for DIYers. Riskier for those who pay shops. Personally, I think the engine will go 200k miles if treated well and if the rod bearings are replaced. But no guarantees and if you are one of the few who suffer a main bearing failure or valve spring failure, you could be looking at a big bill.

Approaching 180,000 and no failures other than an alternator. I have proactively done RB's though. Oil changes every 5,000 and let the warm up cycle complete before I drive off. I think the paranoia is high on this forum.

BMW's are pretty durable. Many older examples everywhere. My 2000 e39 540i went 324,000 miles when I got my M3 in 2013. It was still running strong but needed $10k to get right. Sold to a guy who fixed it up and it was his dd.
I expect the same from my M3 which now has 82,000 miles. No problems so far but I have done hyper diligent maintenance. For the money- maintenance costs are lower than car payments. All cars wear-out their parts with usage so the question is- "What platform do you want to hang your new parts on?" This e92 M3 will be the last BMW for me. My next step would be a Porsche at this point. The current BMW's just don't do it for me. Love looking. But the M3 is still exciting and I am I always finding reasons to drive it somewhere.

My E36 M3 1996 is 280,000 miles!!! and GOING strong!
maintain it, like anything else, will LAST a long time. I plan to warm up the car, for 5 mins, drive slow for 10 mins and then rev her, you should be more than fine. Take care of her and she will do the same. I religiously use Redline on all motor, tranny, diff, then ATE super blue. This S65 V8 will last WAY past 200K miles |

How long a car last depend a fair amount on where you live as well. If you drive your car in an area that get road salt, rust will eat through a lot of metal parts over time. When I traveled to Vancouver, SF or LA, I see lots of older cars. You very rarely see a car older than 15 -20 years in Southern Ontario.

BMWs as a whole age well however they are higher maintenance cars than others. Had an E90 328 with 150k that ran perfectly well but sold it to finance my E90 M3. Either car if maintained well should go well over 200k...
