I am new to this forum so decided to write a short story. My first car was a E46 323i 5 speed with a hard top wich was good enough to learn how to drive. I purchased a Jet Black E92 M3 in May 2018 with a dct and a carbon fiber roof. It had a 138k miles on it but i wasn't too worried because i was aware that their weak point was the rod bearing issue wich i planned to replace at 140k. Well the first day of ownership i heard a loud ticking noise and had the dealer tow it to their mechanic wich confirmed that it had spun a rod bearing. They had promised me they would fix it but as always they made no progress, so after 3 months i made them a deal. They had to buy the engine and i would get it replaced myself. It was a win win situation for me gave me an opportunity to replace the rod bearings myself with a lower mileage engine. I had been looking around for an engine while they had my car so i had an idea were i could source an engine. My only choice was LKQ since they offer a 6 month/6,000 mile warranty. The price was 10,200 with 83k miles, the dealer agreed and the engine should of been delivered within 2 weeks. I got a call from LKQ saying they lost my engine but had another engine on the way from Monroe, GA with 60k miles for no additional cost. Finally the engine arrived with a couple of upgrades, it was removed from a 2011 M3 with the Dinan S2 package (dinan throttle bodies, lighweight crank pulley and carbon fiber intake). I decided to keep it stock until i purchased a tune to run the ported throttle bodies. Vac Motorsports upgraded rod bearings were installed and i serviced my dct with new gaskets all around aswell. Car runs really well and pulls strong i have drove it for about 2k miles no issues i love it.

Wow amazing.. did you purchase a warranty or did they have some sort of used car warranty in the deal? Most used car dealers stick to the "as is" strategy... what luck you had to come away with a newer, better engine.

That is generally not how you hear stories about used car dealerships ending. You're very lucky. Congrats and welcome

Tomas, welcome! What a great story and ending. Wow you had a proper diy start with the ///M, great feeling with "new" motor overhauled with rod shells.

You are not protected by any law such as the "lemon law" that we have here in MA? A used car purchased had to pass inspection and you have 30 days with the vehicle where if anything happens or it fails inspection and the repair cost exceeds 10% of the purchase price the seller has to pay for all repairs or take the car back. Private sale and dealer.

Can you point to where you've seen this? I've never heard of anything other than as is for private sales.

https://www.mass.gov/service-details...cle-is-a-lemon

7-90 days of coverage depending on mileage of vehicle is law for non private sale. For private it's as I stated in previous post.
