Dictating Texts

I'm able to read texts (well, have them read out to me) in iDrive but I can't reply. Whenever I try it goes to Forward and also doesn't let me dictate the response.

Do I need to be parked with handbrake on or something to get it to accept dictation for replying? Is it possible to code this out using Bimmercode?

Sound like you have the same 'feature' as mine. Never could get it to work, so put it down to the version of iDrive since it works in my wifes newer BMW.
The only way I could dictate texts was to use Google Assit via holding down the Voice button on the steering wheel.

I'd say issue is Siri isn't allowed when locked.
Go into setting - Siri - and allow Siri when locked.

That should sort it out

This is not a Siri issue. This an iDrive/Connected Drive issue.

I use an Android phone anyway.

Strangely, I can reply directly to emails using iDrive/Connected Drive. Maybe I have to have a fiddle with Bimmercode to open up the option.

Sorry mate I am unable to help with Android. Surely it's something simple 👍🏻

I just say "Hey Siri" and the car shows "speech" on the display whilst I dictate a text. It's not a reply exactly but works ok in a pinch. I've got an LCI 2016 with iDrive 4.2 and the latest downloaded update with an iPhone X if that helps.

It's not a phone issue (whether Siri or Ok Google). It's an Idrive issue. The option to reply shows but is greyed out and unavailable.

And as noted above, I use an Android phone.
