Neighbour Comments

I'm VERY aware of the time and ambient noise these days when I fire up the M4. I run a factory, so leave for work at stupid o'clock some days, meaning I try to get in the car, start, and roll out as soon as possible.

Has anyone received any comments from neighbours, good or otherwise?

Here's my experience from the weekend.

Neighbour: "I can hear that you've got a new car."
Me: "Sure, come over for a look"
Neighbour: "Now, I know it's a Porsche but I couldn't work out the model just looking at the front from across the street."
Sees it's a BMW
Neighbour: "Oh, that's disappointing. I thought it was a Porsche. Everyone has a BMW, but Porsches are something special."

I'm also very conscious of it as we live in a quiet suburban area and either my wife or I are leaving the house in it around 6:30 in the morning during the week. Whilst that's not stupid early, it's still not nice to be woken up at that time if you don't have to get up.
I was chatting with my neighbour the other day and I happened to mention the sound of the car. Seems he was too polite to raise the subject before that as he took the opportunity to comment on the fact that they can very much hear it every time I start the car. Said it was very loud.
It's currently stock and as much as I want to upgrade the exhaust in some way, it's the major thing holding me back right now. I don't want to be really antisocial.

Try a cold start with catless DP's and an exhaust - it's crazy loud.
Good thing for me is that one neighbour is nearly deaf, she's 85 and the other's father has a V8 R8 with an exhaust so they can't really complain...

I really think that BMW should have a quite startup mode - I think that the Mustang has that.

A good tune can remove cold start, which is a bit better.
