Odour Removal (2nd hand Smokers car)

SO SO SO EXCITED!!! to have picked up my new/ 2nd hand M4 this week.

Love everything about it. It's perfect!...... Well, almost.

The previous owner must have been a smoker. Theres a slight hint of a musky odour, a few white spots on the headliner (Ash?) and the alcantara steering wheel has been matted down from dirty hands over time.

Has anyone had any experience with removing smoke odour from their car? Would love to have that new car feel/ smell.

Also any advice on where to go in Brisbane for detailing?

I know this sounds weird but I have heard people rub ground up coffee beans into the carpet area then vacuum it up and it removes the smell. A neighbor of mine did it with a classic car he bought and I couldn't smell any smoke smell in there after that, it was a hint of coffee smell but nothing crazy that you wouldn't get use to in a few moments in the car. other then that maybe try a really good detailer who can go through and give the inside a good shampoo and clean

That's definitely thinking outside the box. Might do some more research into that one. Would be ok on the carpets but would be hesitant to rub into the roof liner where I would assume a lot of the smoke would have lingered.
Detailers I have approached have been hesitant to try and remove the smell from the liner as any steam might belt the glue and cause sagging

Probably the best bet for getting rid of smoke smell in your car is to dust your interior with scented Baking Soda, leaving it to sit for a day or two (with ventilation) and then vacuuming it up. Otherwise you can try opening a can of coffee beans and leaving it to sit for a while–if you like the smell of coffee, that is. Coffee beans are a natural odor neutraliser

I would use this https://www.chemicalguys.com/New_Car..._p/air_300.htm

And for the air-conditioner, which might be where the main smells are coming from:
https://www.autoglym.com.au/air-con-cleaner

I have used both and can recommend them.

However, coffee beans and bi-carb are also well known to work.

Try give the interior panels, seats, roof liner, door cards etc a good clean with interior cleaner first combined with some of the methods already mentioned.

Will do. I've managed to bring the alcantara steering wheel back to life with a good clean. Amazing how much gunk came out of it. Can imagine some of the smell was wining from there so will continue with all surfaces and carpets

Watch out with putting too much force into cleaning the headliner. Too much force and harsh chemical will definitely affect the headliner foam to break down faster, leading to the material sagging in a few years.
