Just Picked up this 135is

tl;dr can confirm, am in love with this 135is (pictures at the bottom)

[edit: will swap the Bridgestone runflats to MPSS or AS/3 immediately, and hold off on Dinan S2 tune, until I grow bored of stock. Anything else I should think about in the future, like m3 subframe bushings?]

A bit of backstory: 2 and a half years ago, I bought a space gray 2011 E90 M3 competition package with 55k miles. It's now sitting at 89k miles, and I've loved every moment of owning it. It's been incredibly reliable, a fun sleeper sedan, and the M Performance exhaust with the NA V8 always brings a smile, especially on cold start in my apartment building.

However, over time I've come to realize the shortcomings. It has a lot of miles now, so there's dashboard squeaks and rattles, the car's low end torque is pretty pitiful, it's a bit of a boat, and servicing the car is only going to get more expensive over time (I wasn't looking forward to the $3.5k job to replace rod bearings + mounts).

Cut to a few weeks ago. I've been looking for a new daily driver, which had to be a 2 door coupe, forced induction, and pretty reliable. There were a bunch of options, like the S5, GTI, Fiesta ST, Fiat Turbo, m235i and 135. When I finally seriously started the search, I ran across a black 135is w/49k miles for $24k at a local Bay Area used car dealership and made an appointment on Saturday.

We test drove it. Upon hearing the first downshift pop and burble, I knew the 135is would be next, plus it was just a few miles away! The salesman said we should set an appointment for Monday at 5. Early Monday afternoon, I was curious and went onto the dealer site to look at photos. To my surprise, it said Sale Pending. I contacted the dealer immediately and he gave me the run around about how someone showed up Monday morning, they already ran his credit and they wouldn't honor anything for us, even though we showed up Saturday, were interested in buying the car and did everything they told us to do.

Disappointed, I got desperate. There was a black $18k, 45k miles straight piped lightly modded 135i, at another local used car dealership. I test drove it and tried to convince myself that it was perfect. But there were too many red flags.

Fast forward to a week and a half ago. My gf found a gray metallic 135is w/coral red interior, DCT, optioned out, for $28.9k in Texas, super clean, one owner, 10k miles. That, I couldn't believe. It was probably one of the lowest mileage 135is in the country, and for that price, it seemed worth it. We called the dealership on the Saturday, and after learning from the previous dealer experience, we refused to get off the phone until we did whatever was needed to lock the car in. All they needed was flight itineraries proving we would fly in the following week.

We immediately booked the flights and sent it over. Mid week, we wired the $29k to lock it in. Definitely a risk, since we never test drove it and took the dealer's word about its service records and inspection. Ended up flying in this past Saturday from California, learned that multiple people tried to overbid us (including a 22-yo tattoo parlor owner from SoCal) but our sales guy convinced the GM to honor our deal as we came first, were honest, and did all required steps.

1700 miles and 25 straight hours of driving later, we made it home. The N55 turbo was great, never got close to overheating, cruise control is over 26 MPG, the M Performance exhaust on Sport mode is incredible, everything on the car seems tight and the car drives, looks and feels brand new. After driving the S65 for a few years, the torque from the N55 is so refreshing and the dimensions and weight of the car are almost perfect. I'm really looking forward to driving this one every day.

That is a very nice find, indeed. Congrats.

Bet it's gonna start rattling sooner than the E90, though.

Wow I thought my 135i with 30k miles when I bought it was low miles! You're basically in a brand new car! And it's beautiful, congratulations and welcome to our little family of people that are irresistible with their money

My 135is convertible has around 10K miles also, and I bought it secondhand from Carmax 2.5 years ago with only ~6K miles on it then. These are great cars.

Addendum 5/15/2018; Just took mine into the dealer for its annual service, at around 10,200 miles. It appears that I have put all of 1600 miles on the car in the last 1.5 years, during which it has had 2 prior servicings due to the imminent expiration of its maintenance plan the last time, which was the end of August 2017.

Agree. I mean you could leave it but the Dinan is so OEM like you won’t know there’s a tune until you press the pedal. And it’s fairly cheap now.

Nice car. SGM looks so good on the 1er.

Looks like your mirror caps are two tone. Are the mirror caps painted or aftermarket? I have a 135is and the mirror caps are gloss black.

I can't say the same at 172k...

I could, but that would imply that my music is too loud.
