Dazed and confused - it just followed me home

I was out shopping for a new to me commuter, and this 128 just followed me home.

I've always been hesitant about BMW maintenance costs, but this just spoke to me and I was handing over $ before I could talk any sense to myself.

Local history, 2013, 31k miles, now I'm just trembling about what might go wrong

Anyone in Atlanta help me fix it ?

Looks good. You'll love it.

Also, the most reliable 1 series. Some say the most fun as well.

Welcome to 1ADDICTS!

Plenty of fun to be had in a 128i! Especially with some header and DISA work, got to hear one the other day and it was glorious. Welcome!

Got the good 128i front bumper too I see.

Don’t worry! Just find a solid independent bmw shop and you’ll be just fine. Fairly easy cars to work on for the most part.

N52 is a great motor with very few issues. I don't expect you will have many troubles.

Welcome StuP I recently took the dive into a used 135i and have been working on it a lot. Much more to go wrong in the 135i model but the cars are very similar. I too live in Atlanta (West-Midtown) and am, in my 4 months of ownership, already well acquainted with a few of the local indy shops. Feel free to hit me up, but my guess would be if you keep up with maintenance you won't have any issues for the foreseeable future.

Woo-hoo! Another 128i is among us!

I got mine with 159k miles on it, and, 13k miles later, I've only had to replace a bad wheel bearing (PITA), shocks and springs (OE ones are garbage), OFHG (oil change and coolant flush at the same time, $25 gasket kit), and have done regular maintenance items (oil, trans fluid, diff fluid). I've also put four track days on it, and haven't driven it as kindly as some would...

Enjoy the car!

That is a great find. At 31k miles on the odo, it's not even broken in yet. As stated, these are pretty reliable cars, but it does have it soft spots, but at this mileage, you're years away from any issues...

If I might add, you bought a car and now you're worried about it breaking. Don't do that. Any car can have issues. Just drive it and put the worrying behind you...

I was in the market for a commuter I didn't care about and wouldn't need much more care than an oil change every now and then

Not so much breaking it, but things failing, there's nothing I hate more than bits that don't work. I'm already wound up about the speed sensitive volume apparently not working, just bugs me.

I understand a BMW can need a bit more attention, and, let's be honest, parts and experts aren't cheap ! My maintenance budget is more Honda Civic than Ferrari, so we shall see.... lol

I understand the maintenance issues. If you can do the basics like oil changes and brakes, you're way ahead of the game. OFHG and VCG can be tricky, but very owner doable if you just take you time and understand what the job is. Can save yourself a bunch of greenbacks...

That's what I'm hoping. I've done my own maintenance on bikes, cars, planes and boats, but now not as limber as in my youth, and more risk averse !

I think I'm just about up to the VGC & OFHG work, possibly a water pump....

Congrats! And while I just moved to Atlanta, I don't have a good history of doing anything more than oil changes and spark plugs without creating another problem. Mine only has 35k on it, so not much more than yours.

Welcome to the club!
Just flush the transmission fluid, differential fluid and maybe do a coolant flush for peace of mind. You won't have to do anything else besides oil until you change the plugs at 50k.

Very nice find. Mine had 35k miles and I bought it nearly 2 1/2 years ago. You got a nearly new car.

Bought a house up in Peachtree corners. My 135 is still back in Ohio though, for a few more weeks. Where are you?

Out to the east a little, Lilburn way. I used to work in the P'Tree Corners area, but in Dunwoody / Sandy Springs now.
