STUCK...need help!

Went to get the 2013 135i out of storage for the Spring and someone unplugged the battery tender. Got a slight charge and she started but threw the gear with explamation point light on the dash and won't go into gear. She was in tip top when we went into storage...any ideas?

Depending on the age of the battery, full discharge may have killed it. First try to get a full charge into it and see what happens. If you can't get it to hold in normal use, replacing the battery will be necessary.

You wouldn't lose your tune from a flat battery, it's not the same electrical module that gets reset like the clock/date etc.

Just try a full charge and if it doesn't hold get a new battery.

Then stab whoever unplugged it

Yeah...plotting the stabbing now. Limped her home and she's going to sit on a charger for a day or two. Got enough juice to get her started and out of storage and home. Everything programmed stayed (HomeLink, Iphone pairing, etc.). Wish me luck...any idea what battery replacement runs $$ ?

Coding is an hour of dealer labor plus the cost of the battery. Not sure if coding is absolutely necessary if the replacement is of the exact same amperage, size, etc, or the same one. I have yet to do this on mine and would like to see how it goes...

The battery should run you about $150 bucks depending on what you get. Walmart actually isn't a bad place. Matter of fact they have an awesome tool where you give the specifics of your car battery and they give you the best options. I believe for the 128i we have in our family it was around 150 after taxes here in California.

Programmed the battery using Carly.

BTW, get a CTEX battery maintainer. I recommend the 7002. You can get it off Ebay.

The registering of the battery is necessary because BMW got all fancy and set up charge cycles based on the age of the battery. You can reduce the service life of a new battery if you don't go through the process of getting it registered.

I love my CTEK so much I ordered a second one of a slightly different model. I look forward to comparing the two.

You mentioned battery tender so I assume you have a Deltran battery tender. It may take a week to get your battery back up to 100%. I think CTEK also have low outputs too ( 1 amp to 2 amps). Schumacher also make very good units. I would try and get a "battery charger" from Schumacher that puts out 6-10 amps.
Don't know how far you are from Milwaukee (I may have asked this before) but I know a woman in Milwaukee who knows BMWs (especially older ones) inside and out.

CTEKs have a mode for reviving a flat battery.

You are right...got just enough charge to get her home but wouldn't start again. She's been sitting on a 10 amp charger (only set to two amps) for about a day. Battery appears to be holding the charge but haven't driven yet...All the electronic warnings seem to have gone away too. That's a crappy "quirk" that you get the transmission cog of death after just a low battery...

The CTEX will bring a nearly dead battery back surprisingly quick, less than 24 hours. Also it'll bring one back from the dead no other charger can.

I own two, 3300 and 7002. They have saved me many times getting a dying battery up. In fact, one has been on my Mercedes, my summer ride, all winter.

Nice setups. I've got a 3300 that's maintaining the 135i as I type this and I just ordered the MUS 4.3, which was also sold as the BMW branded version.
