Should I daily my N54 135i?

I'm kind of torn on what I want to do with my car. It's a 2009 135i Black/Black, 6MT, Sport/Prem/Cold that just rolled 30k miles. It's completely stock, and in immaculate condition. She's stored in winters, and mainly sleeps in the garage during the drive-able months here in Ohio.

I have a daily driver, and a motorcycle as well. So the daily goes out in winter, and rain. The bike typically on nice days, depending on what I have to do. My commute to work is roughly 30mi round trip, and don't venture into the 'big city' other than weekends.

I don't drive the 1er much because I have a belief that it is worth something, or it will be worth something... I see everything that is done to 1er's on this site and get all these idea's forming on what I want to do. Then I see her in the garage just as she was on the showroom, and I just close the door and walk away.

Just looking for more experienced BMW owners, and especially 1 owners opinion's on what I should do with this car? Continue to baby it, or drive the $h*t out of it and enjoy it?!

Do what you want to do. Everyone will be different on this subject. Ive seen people daily 100k cars. I choose to keep my toys strictly for the weekends and sunny days only. I prefer to drive a beater every day. I'm one of those people that have over 100k in cars just sitting in my garage. I don't get the excitement driving them everyday that some people do. I love the feeling of taking the car out once every two weeks and it feels like a brand new car all over again everytime.

Also I'm not purposely not driving them to keep the miles low or for resale. Between working, having 10 other expensive hobbies, and a family, it just works out that they don't get driven much.

I thoroughly enjoy the feeling of a new car every time I take it out.

I did forget to mention that I'm a test driver for an auto manufacturer. So I drive many different production, and prototype vehicles. I spent most of my winter driving uncomfortable vehicles, and just wanted to come home and drive something nice, couldn't because it won't stop snowing here!

I'm just going to read the title and nothing else and answer your question; yes, you should daily your car. It's not a Ferrari F40.

I'm in a similar situation, 2011 with 27k miles. I live near work, bike often int he summer, and drive an SUV much of the winter. And have a toddler now as well that I'll be waiting a few years before I put her int he back of the 1-er.

My plan is to simply start driving it more, I was keeping it nice because it was / is nice. But at 8 years old... it's time to start getting some snow on it and not trying to "save" it anymore. It's a great car and would fetch a good price but I don't think it's ever really going to appreciate or be even half the value of a 1M.

Judging by your list I'm going to guess you'd be fine with maintenance costs for the 1er so yeah, leave the escort outside and daily the 1er. They get decent gas mileage and in stock form are pretty comfortable.

A '09 One doesn't have much market value, and it never will. While you might think it does, one day reality will dawn on you. If you want to preserve it that's fine, but you could make a better choice.

In any case, I'd start using it. After a while the true nature of the car will come out, and you'll probably change your opinion about keeping it.

I'd compromise, especially with a clean, low-mileage car like yours. Daily it in summer, use the beater in winter, I don't think you'll regret this. While clean, low-mile 135i's will hold value better than all the modded ones, it's going to be at least a decade until it's justifiable to not drive the car all the time. Enjoy your car, they're meant to be driven! Sure, maintenance CAN get nutty (sorry N54 guys), but that's part of owning a nice car like yours...

My $.10...

As others have said, everyone varies, but I've never understood the point of keeping something low-mileage just for the sake of keeping it low mileage? For what? To save it for the next owner to enjoy?

I've owned two N54 powered cars. The first was a 2008 535i that I daily drove over 5 years and racked up the mileage from 50,000 to 195,000 before selling it. Before it had even sold, I had picked up a 2008 135i to do the exact same thing with. Started almost two years ago at 50,000 and now up to 104,000 miles. This isn't a collector car, and it never will be. Drive it, maintain it, treat it right, and enjoy it!

I would continue to use your DD for your commute but I would take the 1er out as often as you can in the spring and summer months and enjoy it as much as possible. To me, that would be the best of both worlds; babying it and enjoying it for what it's meant for... driving!

Let's get this idea out of your head. Every year that thing sits in your garage is probably another 10% off it's value whether you drive it or not. As it stands it's not worth much more than 20K anyway. 1ers aren't worth anything and in 5-10 years they'll be a few grand. Drive the thing and enjoy it because your wallet is becoming lighter anyway.

I rent hookers just for the conversation time. I don't want to ruin them. Or cause their value to fall.

I appreciate everyone's input! lol ... I'm just going to drive the damn thing. Obviously not in snow/salt, because I don't NEED to. But other than that, she will be enjoyed!

I've got an e88 that I only drive on sunny days in the summer simply due to the fact it's a convertible and I also want to be able to enjoy it as long as possible. It really doesn't have anything to do with maintaining its value and more keeping it looking good and minimizing the effects of the salty roads in MN winters. But I drive it every day I can under those conditions. I have an 80 mile RT commute so it does get some miles put on it and I don't feel a bit bad about it.
