Buy M3 Competition Now or Wait?
Hey guys
First time posting in F80 forum as i currently have an F30 335i. Ive been thinking about moving into an M3, and there are some excellent deals to be had on the M3 Comps at the moment (this gen M3 coming to end of life). So keen to know from M3/M4 owners, what do you guys think about the car at its current stage in its life cycle and with the current competition? What swayed you to go the M3/M4, and are there any known issues with the F80 LCI car i should be aware of? Thanks!

I've also been pondering my next car and still keep coming back to the M3 competition for 4 door practicality which is still a must for me.
And as you say they are becoming excellent buying, even new. I think the 2016+ incarnation of the M3 with CPT pack is definitely an improvement and with extras like the GTS transmission flash and some suspension sw mods it is quite a refined package. Personally, I also really like the LCI2 face lift. Though if someone is on a budget I can't see why you couldn't upgrade a 2015 M3 to a CPT level car with the SW upgrades? Whilst putting up with pre-face lift lights and navigation, etc. Of course you could consider a C63 or Giulia Quadrifoglio but I think it comes down to personal preference. My only gripe with the M3 is that there is no exclusivity with so many around but you can individualise with some M performance parts or other goodies. The new B9 RS4 is also looking good but still a little overweight and large for my liking. I would think the new RS5 would also be worth looking at. For me cars like RS3, A45 are all great and practical but you are still driving a hatch that doesn't look much different to the base model. I think the M2 is still the pick of the compact market if you don't need the space, otherwise a GT4 seems like it would be a weapon. Of course if you like the F30 then no reason why you wont like the F80. We love our F31 so it would seem logical to get into an F80. Shame they don't have an F81. |

I am wondering what is the "Wait" for ? Like any series all the tweaks etc to the lci have made it a over all better car. Drive a comp pack if you like it buy it nothing to be worried about.

The wait comment was RE: waiting for the G80 as i recognise id be buying at the end of the lifecycle. Having said that though the comp pack seems so sorted compared to the issues with the launch of the F80s so who is to know whether the G80 will be sorted day 1 or take years to get right.

I reckon now is a great time to buy, i love my M2 to bits but if i could afford to change into a F80 Comp Pack i would, looking on Carsales some great deals on 2nd hand F8*'s out there.

Yeah, I basically narrowed it down to the same list plus a porsche 997 Carrera S. The C63 is not me, i know many love it but i am not a fan of the interior and its driving dynamics. If you just want a daily good sounding german muscle car, it would be perfect. The alfa QV is another matter - going to test drive one on Tuesday. The GT4 would be awesome too but not as a daily driver for me with little 2 kids. Its the value of the M3 Comp now that is making me lean that way although i dont want the "same car" aesthetically and its getting on in its lifecycle. The deals on the M3 comp make it 20-30k less than all the cars above... i think im convincing myself its the right thing to do .. lol!

car comparison is a muddy subject with no real winners unless you inlude a porsche :P
the c63s and m3 debate has no real winners.. i honestly would be equally happy with both. They both have specific qualities that elevate them but I think in a test drive scenario the c63s will win , m3 takes more getting used to and then there is a the outstanding problem of spending a few grand more for a exhaust for the bmw. Most buyers just get the c63s i think.

So is there anything M3 or M4 owners dislike about their cars? or any major issues to look for if buying 2nd hand? Cheers Harry

Honestly it was embarrassing stock. Sounds like a 4 stroke Lawn mower. But the handling is what won me over in the end. That C63s Sounds phenomenal though. |
