Table dictionaries for tuning?
I should preface by saying I have recently opted into the Bootmod3 tuning ecosystem for the S55 platform.
For those of us that want to tinker with tables, but in an informed manner, is there a data or table dictionary out there that ties back each table to the specific function and mode (if applicable)? For example, I want to play around with throttle mapping, but we have a smattering of throttle related tables that each look like they could be a throttle map but may or may not be active maps the car uses in each mode. Some are called "Throttle Mapping" others are "Throttle Mapping 2" while we also have "Driver Torque request" and "Driver Torque Request MAP" tables which on my prior N54 platform was the actual throttle map. I'm not comfortable messing around with any of those until I know their exact definitions, after which I'll gladly accept the risks from tinkering. I hope this isn't an inappropriate question to have asked here. If so, please disregard. Thanks! Ash |

You are best to post in engine sub forum, and chances are no one will answer. Because most so called and proclaimed "tuners" keep such info as trade secret... PM some of those guys and see if they guide you. S55 engine is infinitely complex and you can't just start guessing and modifying things without dire consequences. GL!

That makes sense and was the response I thought I was going to get!
I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the advice friend. |

Apparently, and I have no tuning products or knoweldge, but BM3 makes it very easy with some inline editor and a sanbox of limited nb of maps out of the 60K+ maps, I've seen the videos posted by Cary. You also need to have on hand a document that describes much about the S55 engine, or have lot's of knowledge in that area (FYI I don't).
I am curious to learn, and I've asked few times in the past, with most saying they will put a thread much like my sticky thread DIY: F8x Software Update Tips but I haven't seen anything posted... Can you post some screenshots of the throttle maps you were referencing above ? |

Yeah I have seen and used the editor, and some tables are blatantly obvious while others there are more logical choices that there "should" be so it's obvious that some tables apply to your model and others don't. There could be other dependencies as well that I would like to know about before tooling around.

Oh I meant a screenshot of the actual table/map, not the list of available maps/tables :-) BTW, so is the concept w that editor, is that once you do changes to those tables, you can then actually flash it to your car ?

Yes, if the map is unlocked/unencrypted you can get into the editor. If you can get into the editor, then any exposed table is editable and can be saved into the ROM file, and flashed back into the ECU. It's a lot like the old tunerpro + the flashing tool built into one platform. Really cool stuff.
Will do some table screen shots - thing is, you won't learn much from them as they are exactly what you'd expect to see. The issue isn't that - it's that as you can see above there are so many tables for practically speaking three modes - so which ones are the actual maps. |

Here's one of the Throttle tables. The others look similar, with the slight variances you'd expect to see between the modes. But again, too many tables are exposed for three modes in order to deductively determine which are the right ones to tune.

PM Me if you would like help. There should be 2 tables per mode, one is for tip in, one is for general usage. If you send me your map I can give you better insight, it looks like the S55 has slightly different tables than M2 N55.

I have found a tuning guide called N5X tuning spreadsheet 03082016.xls on github
https://github.com/dmacpro91/BMW-XDFs Has anyone something more S55 specific? I am trying to create a "valet" map using my .bin file (downloaded using MHD). No tuning needed (using MHD OTS maps). Just playing - but since there are multiple tables for load/boost - not sure which to adjust to eliminate any boost for "valet" |
