Yowza. There are others he's selling that are double the price. Why are they so expensive?? I can go to my local tag office and get this for about $50.

Didn't even think these were transferable in CA. Like it, but in general I would be sick of vaniety plates after a year and would want a new one.

Huh? Sure you can custom your own for $50, but you can't get the ones he did... after all plates are all unique character combos

I don't know the laws in California but in NY you can only hold the plate in storage for a year I believe and if it doesn't get transferred or end up on your car someone else can go online and order that plate number.

No I get that, but the guy locks something in for $50 and then turns around to sell it for a grand? Is there some significance with them being black?

The numbers /letters and state issued in matters. The plates could be replicated and you wouldn't know the difference.

The black ones are vintage limited edition plates released by CA DMV. Nothing special about them other than color, but that style doesn't fit every car. There's no way I would have that on my white or silver cars.

I see these styles on every color car now and on Prius and minivans and I just smh...

I think black plates cost an extra $50 a year on top of normal registration fees IIRC.

Black plates used to come on older cars from the '60's and there were current collectors who wanted those plates for their cars so CA brought them back at a price. But anyone could buy them and many do and more for new cars.

A bit too attention seeking for like "look at me, I have an m3", I like the ones that only other enthusiasts would understand ex "8300 RPM".
