Coding retained following Takata Airbag Replacement at Dealer?
For those of you who have had the airbag replaced under the Takata recall at the dealer, have you retained both coding features and engine tuning? TIA.

Agreed with the above though I recall an earlier thread where there occasional failures of a module that required replacement. This would result in the loss of coding as I recall...

See the posts in this thread. On rare occasions the FRM module has blown. See post 769

Did my airbag recall a month ago. My bpm Sport II tune and coding were unchanged.

Yes, my FRM module did blow on one of my cars. They did HAVE to reset my ECU which lost my DCT tune.

I still don't understand this. What are they doing beyond unplugging/removing airbag A and replacing with airbag B?

Exactly. There is no coding involved here. A new airbag does not require any coding, unless the previous one was deployed. Even then, it's a simple clearing of the fault code and not modifying the modules in any way.

Yep I understand. They also did my battery cable recall. From what I read, sometimes In doing the battery cable recall the FRM footwell module has been Known to blow. When it blew my windows were stuck down. The next day they had to install a new FRM module. They also had to reset the ECU. When they did I lost my DCT tune and coding.

I corresponded with Alex@alpine when it happened. His response was "if the FRM footwell module is fried then they will have to replace it and they will have to reprogram your vehicle to factory specs. You will lose any tunes that are on the car". Which is what the SA told me at the time that it happened.
Edit: This happened during the battery cable recall. Not the airbag recall. |

They didn't even disconnect my battery. Took 20 minutes from when the car actually rolled in to when they told me it was ready, just replaced the whole assembly. You take a screwdriver, shove it in each side of the wheel, disconnect a connector, repeat. They probably ground themselves in some way before disconnecting. I figured they would disconnect the battery but nope
