What's the dumbest thing you've ever done with your M..

..other than leaving it in your garage and not driving it?

I've only had my M for a few months, so not much to report here...other than allowing the tow truck driver to carelessly load/unload it onto his flatbed. Thankfully I got all that on video and his company had to pay me $1500 to cover the repair quote for cosmetic damage on the front skirt.

Focus replies on how you drove or didn't maintain it.

i don't know if i would call it dumb, but i went through quite a frustrating fiasco with locating a suitable oem space grey e92 trunk. at one point, i had three trunks in my garage. finally got one to my house that wasn't damaged.
also bought a carbon wing on a whim that i never mounted and still have. then, i bought another wing i haven't mounted, and might go a different route. the wife doesn't care for the collection of parts in the garage.

As much as most of us would like to pull up a chair and watch the tech work, most shops/dealers don't allow this and often give the typical excuse:

* It's against our safety rules/insurance to allow customers back here.

If you were allowed to sit back there, what you would see is

* A lot of lollygagging by the tech taking his sweet time to work on your car when it could be done at less time than the manufacturer states and charges

* Rough treatment of your car

Same to you. You'd feel different if the tech got paid 2 hours, you got charged 2 hours, but the repair took 4. Flat rate is based on industry averages and engineers recommendation. Flat rates are a fluid thing and change all the time.

Guess my point is quit shitting on technicians. lol.

For me it's not fixing my leaking valve covers. Made a simple job into a huge mess to clean up. You'd be surprised how little I want to repair my own ///M after spending 8 hours a day fixing other peoples ///M's ( or N54's... those damn things keep the lights on if you know what I mean)

Thats not right Ham. Why would ignorance in combination with arrogance be accepted here while it's not for any other profession? Are they special people that should be treated in a special way? I am certainly not saying everybody act the same way but refering to a specific dealer (happens to be the largest in Sweden) as reply on OPs question.

Take it more light hearted. Nothing harsh intended.

Yes as a tech, it's BS seeing people shit on dealers ( though I tend to agree most of the time) and techs. It's almost never the technicians fault for a customers poor opinion of a dealership. Service managers and advisers create the bulk majority of problems. Both for the customer, and the technician.

Read my reply above. It wasn't meant harshly, more lighthearted and fun.

Ah, since you're a tech, please tell everyone why 2012-13 E9X's aren't covered by the blower recall. Was there a design change?

The recall covers 2007 ( euro) through 2013 (global). Don't know where you read differently.

Right now the recall has been approved but the parts acquisition for the recall has not. You will recieve 2 letters in the mail, the second one will come after the parts have been approved. Then you can make your appointment.

All the latest news reports including the recall notice that someone posted indicate that the recall only goes up to 2011 model E9X's. I checked my VIN and there are no open recalls.

My last experience with bmw techs involved me leaving an unopened aluminum can of seltzer water in the cup holder and finding the top cut off. I asked the dealer about it but never got an answer as to what happened. No joke. Very weird.

You are correct. Just checked TIS and they have updated the recall notice as of 10/30/2017. Prior to that it included 2012/2013.

Ha that's random AF. lol. Seltzer water is used to remove stains and spills from carpet... top cut off for easier access with a rag for dabbing purposes and more control. Most likely what occurred. Probably not the tech, but the detailing department.

I saw a detailing tip about blowing dust out of cracks and crevices with an air compressor. It worked great, but I used a little too much pressure and blew the EDC button off and broke the tiny tabs that hold it in place. The replacement switch was $175....

I paid off my 08 M3 and than I started reading how great the F80 M3 was so I found a 2015 and put down a substantial amount of $ to get in it after 2 months of owner ship I realized I made a big mistake so I traded in for my current 2012 I still miss my 08 it was perfect with everything I did to her.
