New to me M3 - Introduction
Hello all,
A little late but I am here to say hello to my fellow E9X M3 peeps!! My M3 story starts back in high school when the E36 M3 was released in 95. I wanted one sooooo bad (like Claudia Schiffer bad), but I was in high school... I still yearned for the M3 into university but it was not meant to be. When the E46 M3 was released, it was lust at first sight (seriously, I had wood). It was like a drug - the need I felt was pure addiction. But, alas, I was not in a position to buy one as grad school does not pay well (or really, at all). Then, to my horror, the E9x M3 was to be released as a V8!! I was aghast!! How could this be? Then, I saw one... Then I heard one... Then I wanted one! As life would have it, I was still not really in a position to buy a RWD sports car as I live in a place where it snows half the year (October to April). Why I live here is a question that I ask myself every winter... So fast forward a few years and I am finally in a position to buy a garage pig. I looked at all of my options and decided the E92 was the vehicle for me (always liked coupes). So, I bought one!!! Side note: the E46 is still my favourite due to its elegant lines but it is harder to find a really clean E46 M3 these days. While I really wanted the interlagos blue, space grey was my second choice and I managed to find this (black one is my 2011 328xi dd) last fall: Specs are: Early 2011 E92 6MT ZCP with all the options and a carbon fibre roof 27,400KM on the ODO when purchased (24,xxx on ODO in 2014 according to service records) Previous owner had added the following Dinan parts: tune, exhaust, intake, throttle bodies, under drive pulley, strut brace and 4.10 LSD. All I can say is wow... What a car. Before the snow fell, it gave me great pleasure to start it in the morning to let it warm up as I made coffee. I go to work early in the AM (6:30 or so) so I can enjoy it without hitting traffic. Everything about it makes me smile. The S65B40 engine is wonderful, even given the bearing issues. I have already swapped the rod bearings out with a nice set of BE bearings. A big thank you to SYT_Shadow for the great DIY. Even at 31,400KM, the factory bearings were showing some wear. Also, a HUGE thank you to all of the really smart people that made the BE bearing option a reality!! My only complaint with the car is the damn 4.10 LSD. It works fine but I really do not like the 4.10 gears. Plus, it has a a bit of whine at 70-90 kph. Problem solved by opening up the windows, turning up the radio or driving it faster!! So not too big of a deal. In the future, I will likely try to find a stock gear ratio diff to swap. So, if anyone wants to swap diffs, let me know!! Now that it is winter here, my poor M3 is in hibernation: I eagerly await spring so that I can put this beast back on the road. I remain envious of those who can drive their M3 year round!! Although, I am not sure I could afford the fuel 12 months of the year as I averaged 19.3L/100Km since I bought it: Cheers,

Beautiful car! Similar to you but a few years behind... always loved the E46 in high school, E90/2 came out in my freshman year of college and initially I hated it. But then it grew on me, badly.
Currently in my last year of medical school and hoping I can snag an E90 or E92 when I finish up. Would love to keep my E93 328 as my daily. Glad to see your dream finally come true! That car truly is perfect. Enjoy! |
