Help deciding

Hi guys.

I've been looking at the carbon front lip for my M3 2016 comp. Will wrap with ppf for stone protection.

I have a few concerns

1. How much lower is it then stock - especially with lowish drive ways?
2. How does it fit without getting the left and right carbon splitters which I don't like - is there a gap or do you really need to fit these with the lip?

Any advice appreciated.

Domino was looking into this option recently.

From memory, best landed price is about $1850.

I'd say the lip add's about an inch to the middle section of the bumper.

Note: the side sections sit lower, so the lip might only add 1/2 an inch to them.

As for the fit, there is a gap which is mostly visible from top down.

The benefit of the carbon however is that it doesn't have clips for the splitters like the matte finish plastic lip does.

domino_z, what was the reason you decided against in the end?

Where is that price from? I've been quoted $3k!

I feel the same way about the splitters/air guides.

Also interested in pursuing this option.

I've got my car lowered with H&R Sport Springs and let me tell you, it scrapes easily!

I don't even have a lip yet.

I'm on stock springs and my car is clear everywhere I go. I don't want to spring for a 2K carbon lip if it's gonna be scratched in 2 weeks.

It's a tough call.

Maybe buy the matt black one and test it out first

The matte black lip is the smarter choice if you think you will scrape.

Though at stock height, you should be fine with the carbon.

Personally, i'd be keen to go with the matte black also but I don't want the visible clips.

I guess matt black with a carbon wrap is an option - not sure if I could match my carbon weave on the side Mirrors, rear spolier and roof.

Have a look at this pic. I was lowered on KW HAS when I took it. Minimum scraping only when I didn't pay attention going through steep driveways. Now I'm back to stock height and there's no scraping at all.

Here are a couple of photo's of a friends car.

He has fitted the matte plastic finish lip, only. You can see the clips from the top-side.

Note, he's simply wrapped the splitter section with matte finish film.

It's time to buy.

Thanks fellas!

That is really helpful.

How obvious is that gap in real life? Does it bother your friend? Has he filled the gap with something?

Cheers.

I couldn't even tell from front on. I had to look at it closer to see the wrap/clips.

The clips are obvious from the top down, but it's completely smooth with the Carbon version (I think).

I had the splitter on my 235 before I changed to the M3 and it scraped pretty easily even though I was super careful. Even the M3 on stock springs I have to be pretty careful. If you have strep driveway/carpark exit/entrance it'd be tricky. Having said that I reckon the front splitter looks awesome with the carbon lower bits.

You can only get away with the carbon lip without the splitter caps as it doesn't have the visible clips like the plastic

Best pricing I got was from schmeidmann

Re not doing it, tbh my time with this car is limited, i don't see it as a long term ownership prospect so not sure I want to spend 2k on a lip - I already have an Intake and tuner that's been sitting in my garage I have yet to install and most likely won't.

Pics attached from a US member of carbon lip without splitters - this is my preferred way to do it, not a fan of the splitter caps

Any idea on sterckenn prices? Like it's look. Not over the top.

I will probably buy an M5 x drive next year but will likely hang on to the M3. I'm in love with this bloody car!

Use genuine one with the carbon splitters so you won't have that issue

I prefer raw one then painted it to match the car

Mine

$580 for the lip + $730 for the carbon splitters + $450 for painting and installation

I think the carbon splitters look great on white. Not that great with mineral grey.

I've decided to go with sterckeen. Will post pics once fitted.

Will post pictures once fitted on my mineral grey car.
