new key fob programming???

Hello All!

I'm interested in acquiring an additional key for my f83 without paying retail and the enormous programming fee. Does anyone know for sure that if one would to purchase a "virgin" and uncut key (the uncut part doesn't matter), that it can definitely be programmed by the owner using the steering column (to include comfort access). I have heard that when using the steering column to program the key, comfort access features will not work... and I have heard that it will work. I want the key, obviously, to work just as the current key that I have and am trying to avoid high dealer cost for the key. If anyone can be of assistance, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

This would be nice for those wanting to "upgrade" their key as well (I know for one, the M5 key is much nicer).

Probably wont work. There was thread about replacing the board on M5 key with the one from M3 M4 . That makes the key fob original with the M5 look

So my dealer is charging me $350 for a new key and $75 to program... Assuming program means comfort access? I have heard that the keys come programmed when purchased from a dealer... Meaning that when it first arrives at the dealer, it will start the vehicle without additional programming. Anybody have any info on obtaining a new key without the dealer rape charges?

You can program yourself. However you must pay the $350 key fee to the dealer. I do not have comfort access and was able to program my new key by placing next to a spot on steering column, right side center of column. Hold in location for 5 secs and then test lock/unlock and start. Very simple procedure.

So ya I understand that you can program yourself using the key logo on the steering column along with the working key, however, I also hear that by doing that, the comfort access features do not work. I'll just pay the fee to program.
