Need suggestions for hardcore weekend car
Hey y'all,
I love the 335i, but I don't know if modifications would make my 335i as sporty as I'd like it to be. I'm looking for something a lot racier for the weekends. Stiffer ride, more responsive steering, louder, responsive motor, smaller size. Hopefully inexpensive; I'm thinking an e36 M3 maybe? It's so hard to find one that isn't destroyed, but the clean specimens are costing a pretty penny. Any suggestions? |

I'll consider anything $20k or less, but I'm more compelled to buy something $10k or less. When my 335i warranty is up, I'm going to look at buying something a lot faster, so I'm just trying to bide my time until then.

It you're up for a project, consider an Ultima. It's a lot more than $20K by the time you're done... but you can buy the kit in stages.

I wish I had the kind of time for a kit car. I'd get a Factory Five kit car from the factory 30 minutes away from where I live. Unfortunately, knowing myself, that kit would sit in my garage until I sell it for half the price on CL 3 months later lol |

E86 3.0si coupe. Chassis is brick stiff. Sweet N52 in 330i guise. Must have with the sport package and sport seats. There is one on BaT going for $8,100 latest bid.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I rode a CBR for a good while. Got rid of the bike after a good friend of mine suffered a riding accident in my hometown. There's too much risk involved, drivers just don't care. I like cars more anyways. |

Oh come on.
The statement above is akin to putting money in a savings account instead of the stock market and using 'some people value their money' as justification for the decision. 'Some people' value what a motorcycle can provide that a car never, ever will be able to. Is that worth the inherently higher risk? To 'some people', it is. The OP did, after all, say he wanted a 'hardcore' alternative -- and a bike is about as hardcore as it gets. I'm of the opinion that those who discount motorcycles like this (and worse) are part of what makes motorcycling more dangerous in the U.S. than, say, Europe. We have the same right as four-wheelers -- known to motorcyclists as 'cages' -- to the roads and the risks inherent with operating any legal vehicle on one. I'm not saying that you have this attitude, sir, but your statement suggests it: People who feel motorcycles are not 'equal' to cages regarding rights to roads are the single biggest risk to those who ride. (To the OP: Count me in with a vote for an S2K.)

The S2K is a fine choice as would be the Z4 3.0si coupe although that's at the high end of your budget. I've seen them around $22.5k for a decent example and I've been looking.
Since this is a temporary arrangement I'd vote for something that has stabilized in value like those two, you can drive them for a few years and not lose a ton.
