Before any of you guys complaining about made-in-china and Long wheelbase BMW. Let me tell you it is just business.
Bmw is doing what is required to enter Chinese market. People there need more leg room in the rear. And made-in-china is lowering the cost to appear to more buyers. You spoiled US buyers have no idea how much it cost more in other markets than US. it is reality. You can either change to adapt or go out of business. Make no mistake, Chinese market is the biggest in the world. If you are smart enough, you will adapt. Because every business want money.

I want my BMW's to be Made in Germany, and I don't mind paying more for it.

So you'd never buy an X5 then even if in the market for an SAV/SUV. Interesting.

To elaborate on.
All vehicle assembled outside of China (assembly, not components) have a roighly 100% import tax. But if a car is assembled in a Chinese plan, that goes away.
Instead of selling a $100k 5 series, BMW make the decision to open plants in China; allowing the price to be $50k and making themselves successful.
All components including most engines and machines parts are still shipped from Germany. But electronics, body etc are made in China and assembled by Chinese workers.

Even if it is 100% premium? We are not talking about a few thousand dollars here.

China has become BMW's number one market because of its diverse offering in the guise of segment leading 3er and 5er Li and the new 1er Sedan which has just arrived on the market.
The previous 5er Li is the best selling vehicle in its segment and with the attributes abound in the new 5er it is expected that the new one should equally be successful even though the Maybach-type E-Klasse L is deemed to be more extravagant and opulent for those that need to keep a low profile against the less affluent.

The X1 is also offered in Li specification as a first and is proving popular. The new X3 model is also to be offered in Li specification for the very first time.

It is also worthy to note that BMW's NEV BMWi and iPerformance cars are the best selling vehicles amongst our competitors in China.
Of course they have the X1 and previous 5er Li ahead of other markets. But there will also be the X3 and the entry 1 series as well as the new 5er Li iPerformance.

The lectures from BMW executives smack of German authoritarianism.

"You vill do vat ve vant and you vill like it!" Scary.

As for Chinese BMW buyers need more leg room in their 5 series -- LOL. Not true the last time I looked. Which was like 10 seconds ago.

Never been interested by SUV's anyway. I am a vintage car lover. And to be true it is not BMW that make the best SUV's but the JLR group...

Australia. you don't have to be a billionaire to choose your German-made BMW. There are some of us who in the past bought M cars not only because they were the sportiest but also because they were hand made (I believe the last one was the e34).

As pointed our before that is a 'want' not a 'need'. You choose to cross your legs in a car. If that's customary so be it. There's a lot of things I want but don't need....

Most BMWs you buy nowadays are still being made in Germany, for a good 60%+ of the components anyway. Chinese made BMWs are only being sold in China. Chinese BMWs started with the 3 series, and they have really come a long way in terms of improving on build quality and reliability, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference besides the wheelbase.

Absolutely, prices on most luxury import vehicles are through the roof in China, a good number of models of vehicles from the likes of BMW AUDI AND MERCEDES are being retailed at triple the Canadian prices over there. And this is just China, apparently they could be even more expensive in Korea or Singapore.
