Any former M6 owners here?
Financially it may make sense for me to lease a new car. Currently drive a 2013 M6 F12 Convertible, loaded. Its under factory warranty until 10/18 (though if I trade in I get a prorated refund as I have not used the warranty to-date).
Looking at a new M240i or M4 vert. Would lease. Anyone go from M6 to M4? Thoughts?

M6 to M4, thoughts, regrets
I have a 2013 M6 convertible, thinking of leasing a new BMW (tax benefits). While I like my M6, would not lease a new one (too big).
So I am looking at an M4 convertible (I have owned both E46 and E93 M3 convertibles). Has anyone made this move? What am I looking at/missing.

(1.) The M6 is big! just not fun to sport drive at all for the places I do it (2.) The M4 is far away luxury-wise from the M6. Obviously this is subjective, but the M6 feels very elegant and luxurious to me whereas the M4 feels aggressive and more utilitarian. That's not to say it's not nice, just comparatively the M4 is more "basic" to me. (3.) The M6 is harder to use for me. The M4 is more grab-n-go versus the M6 which is more of a production to use. |

Do you live near Aero Club Dr.? I think you are my neighbor.
(Unfortunately I have a coupe not a convertible so can't help with your question.)

"Do you live near Aero Club Dr.? I think you are my neighbor." Lakefield West across from the country club. Do you have a dct or a stick? Are you a BMW CCA member?
"In fact, the M6 even feels more cramped than an M4" I have not driven or spent much time in the M4 but my M6 is not cramped at all (though my wife hates the seats). My issue is the long nose (I have already scraped the front twice, now I park far more carefully).

I'm also in LW on S. Club. DCT. Joined BMW CCA when I got the car in 2015 but haven't been to any events.

John Dillinger "no but thinking of getting an m6 for the gf - how do u rate the car >?"
I like the car except it feels very big, far bigger than my M3 E93. Interior is very nice, lots of toys/tech (including night vision). Its overkill on public roads (get a 640i instead).

Seat of the pants wise I couldn't feel much acceleration under 80mph as the car was so heavy and stable. I could barely feel the back end losing traction if it weren't for the traction light flashing on the dash in 1st and 2nd gears lol. Of course on the freeway the M6 is a monster but you gotta ask: how often does one travel at such high speeds...
In contrast the F8x M cars felt very fun in the lower gears when the boost hits. YMMV. Handling / diving dynamic wise F8x hands down IMHO |

Just went from an M5 to an f80. The f80 is much better as a drivers car....night and day. I tracked my M5, which was tuned with an exhaust....fun and fast as hell, but less exciting

I went from M6 Coupe to M4 CP after the lease of M6 was up...
What's your question? You will enjoy the nimbleness of M4 and if you go with Manual Transmission (As I did) the fun will be completed. You will have more usable power and lighter/smaller car with more room on back seat but you will miss the power/torque of your monster plus the luxurious, nice and classy interior especially if you have full leather on your M6 . You also miss the feeling that "you are driving the BMW top of the line"

Will try and test drive an M4 in the next few days. I have to make a decision because my M6 is due for service and rear tires.

My M6 GC feels big. As you corner, you will be aware of the addition mass during acceleration and cornering.
The M3 gives you a more instantaneous sense of acceleration than the M6 because its light and gets going quickly. The M3's turn in response and front end traction is much better with very little delay when you change direction. Having said that once the M6 gets going, its really quick and makes a lot of cars look stationary. The turn in response may be a bit lazy but mid corner traction feels almost the same as M3. I rarely ever get past 3rd gear during WOT in the M6 otherwise be prepared to pull out your scissors and cut your licence in 2.

Beside the obvious of going from a huge car to one of a more normal size, for me it was the seats that became an issue. The seat in the M6 are just so adjustable. They are supportive while also being soft and forgiving and super high quality. The M3 seats on the other hand while not terrible just dont do it for me. I'm 5'8" 150lbs and the M3 seats feel thin like I bottom out and can feel the frame through the padding. They don't have much adjustability and feel kind of cheap. This honestly can be said for most of the interior. The M3/4 interiors just dont hold up vs the M6. The feel kind of econoboxy IMO.

I decided to keep my M6 for the time being. Its paid for and I just got a steal on 20" black wheels. Come 2018 I will start shopping again...my warranty expires 10/18
