Finally got some Kitty! Hellcat vs. F80 M3

Hey guy's,

Just traded in my 2016 S3 in for this amazing Yellow Jacket 2017 Challenger Hellcat! Why? I have always wanted a supercharged muscle car that has both a ferocious pull, gnarly V8 sound, and that satisfying supercharger whine.

After the initial test drive, I fell in love with this car! Car is a boat, but it felt so comfortable and smooth. The SC whine is addicting, and the pull is straight up FEROCIOUS!!! I am actually quite irritated how it makes my stock ZCP, with Remus catback(mids+axle) feel almost unexciting. I expected the SC'd Kitty to lose a lot more power at 4500ft altitude.

POWER: I have yet to do side by side pulls, but in the M I feel like it pulls hard but very "Euro-Smooth" vs. "Raw-Fierce". Instant power, no lag(SC vs. Turbo). The pulls in the M feel very deceptive, it moves!! Just doesn't "feel" as fast because it's so well built and planted. In the Hellcat the pulls feel extremely scary to my passengers lol. It's a straight line cruiser. DUH.

BRAKES: The car feels VERY large, but surprisingly brakes better than my F80. I used to have an F80 with the 18's and it felt like it braked better(might be the heavy 20's..not sure).

TRACTION: The Hellcat requires even MORE attention to throttle application than the F80. We cruised in the rain today and the Hellcat isn't the uncontrollable beast people make it out to be. Just have to learn how to use the throttle appropriately.

STEERING: F80 hands down, the steering feels sort of wobbly and "truck-like" Do not see a button to control steering feel. The F80 feels like a very buttoned down car.

SOUND: First the F80 exhaust, I have the non-resonated Remus catback and combined with the ZCP burbles it sounds damn good and gets compliments all the time. The Hellcats big, burbly V8 sounds very satisfying and "masculine". You really cannot hear the turbo's on the F80(it's there, just very faint). That supercharger whine is just ooooohh SO sweet, addicting.

Overall, the M is just sexier and gets more attention...believe it or not. It's an amazing machine and will hold it's own against the Hellcat(at altitude). I just feel like the Hellcat is the more visceral and exciting car to drive. I am blessed to be able to have both at my disposal and experience the beauty and the beast.

Here's some pics of my wife and I cruising, just thought I'd share!

Awesome color on both, I have spent just a little time in a Hellcat Charger and they are a blast to drive.

Very nice! I know it's a boat compared to the other 2 muscle cars (Camaro/Mustang) but the styling to me is more in line with a throwback muscle car than those other 2 cars. Best of luck with it!

Both pretty cool cars and great colours

I love the air intakes on the hellcat instead of the lights

I applaud you for your colour choices, and the M looks amazing!

Serious though that Dodge looks like it was designed by a 3 year old.

And here I am looking to get into an S3 (preferably an RS3).

If they weren't so big, I could see it, but even the ZL1 seems like it would be too big and heavy (despite having zero room in the back "seats").

Nice ride though, and great mountain views. I want to live there.

Nice cars! Best of both worlds, glad you can appreciate both for what they are and are not. The m3 does look small, kinda surprised haha

Haha, thanks for the comments guys. The pictures have the Hellcat out-angling the F80. The Hellcat is a large car, but some of the pics make it out to be even bigger than it actually is.

I used to hop in the F80 after driving around the S3 and the F80 would feel HUGE. Now hopping into the F80 after driving the Kitty, the F80 feels tiny. The seating position in the M is very cockpit-like, vs. the Hellcats suv-like driving position.

I am just in love with the sound and pull! The M3 is not a slow car by any means. I will do some pulls in Mexico after I get some 305/35/20 NT555Rs on the Kitty and compare the two. I am dying to know how badly the M will get walked. Remember, we are at ~4500ft above sea level. So the Hellcat's SC might suffer a bit more than than the TT F80.

How is this possible? The Hellcat couldn't pull the M up to 115. Tried two drivers, barely any spin from a 40 roll. Confused. Even tried two different drivers. Auto mode starting from 2nd gear, Hellcat would need to go up to 130-130 to finally pull the M.

Any thoughts?

Lol at random GTR joining in.

I was expecting the Hellcat to slowly walk away from the F80. Disappointing results from the Hellcat.. then again it is a Dodge so what would you expect? j/k

Nick Murray did a Hellcat vs M4 vid the kitty def walked the M4 (not exactly surprising)

Edit: turns out this Hellcat is actually modified with unknown mods

I guess the altitude affects the Hellcat more than the M4. My z06 would get walked by almost everything at 4500 ft lmao

You're going to need to run that car down at sea level or somewhere that isn't in the clouds. lol

The Hellcats can give C7Z's a run for their money. It's a 125+mph trap car.

That Hellcat was modified. And the owner wouldn't say what modifications he had. Nick's car was completely stock.

120 trap for the M vs 125 for the Dodge. It's not that much faster in the grand scheme of things.

However the altitude should be a wash right? They are both forced induction, either one should be equally affected. <shrug>

That one is modded to shit with drag radials. Mine is stock at altitude. Plus my M is a ZCP with secondary cat deletes(Remus catback). I had two of my good friends drive while I was in the M. They just left it in auto, rather than auto+downshift to 2nd to keep the tranny on boil.

I have to head out to Mexico this weekend and seek redemption.

The F80 doesn't seem to suffer much if at all, at elevation. The DME compensates pretty well. Plus SC cars suffer more than turbos.

This M is a MONSTER, I had two passengers in the M, and that GTR could not pull away from me. He was by himself, don't know the mods. Might've been all stock.

It has to be the elevation. Those Hellcats trap 125 mph and the M Competition is 119/120. It shouldn't be close at all.
