Ultimate Daily Driver?

I've had M cars for the past 14 years - 01 M3, 05 M3, 08 M3, 11 M3, 06 M5, 08 M6 - due to the fact they are the best sporty, DD. While I'm in a 15 M3, the M cars have become much more mainstream than in the past plus the M engines are no longer unique.

So I think I've completed the "M car" bucket list. Time to move on to a few others -

Attainable Bucket List Cars -

911 GTS
Maserati GranTurismo MC

Later in life bucket list cars -

F430 or California
Audi R8 V10

Requirements -

- Can only be a single car. I dont have space for a 3rd car
- Must fit kids in the rear seats
- Budget up to $100k
- Prefer manual trans
- Needs to have a visceral experience or something that will "light my fire" while driving - like the S85 at WOT, S65 intake, GT exhaust note - something that makes you giggle.
- Needs to sound awesome - either engine note or exhaust
- Gotta do well at the back road drives, I dont track anymore

I'm leaning towards a 2012 GTS as I can pick one up at $75k, then maybe step up to a 2015 GTS down the road. However I've always wanted an GT MC and they have dropped to $65k for a nice 2013+ but the depreciation is pretty sad on those cars. Plus if I get the GT MC now, I can always pick up a 911 down the road but the GT MC with the N/A 4.7 is simply epic and its my only shot to own one now.

Anything else you would look at for a thrilling DD? I wish I could move to 2 cars - I would probably do a Boxter plus some sporty DD - but have to stick to 1 car for now.

Like they say.... "first world problems"

If you're kids are at least booster age I'd go for the GTS. If they're younger, stick with 4 doors or you will hate your life.

I'm in a similar boat to you, debating between your 2nd choices.

2018 R8 V10 Plus
2018 Ferarri California T

No one is talking about these though, so I'll chime in. Was looking at the California but it needs a kit ASAP, it's just too "soft" for my taste in stock form. The only kit I would think of is the Novitec Rosso, but it's priced at $75,000 and that's a M3/M4 daily driver to go along with my weekend California.

The only other option and I think it's the best is the R8 V10 Plus, the N/A V10's are fading from history, I feel like if I don't pick this thing up soon it will be gone for good. My next step would be the Audi R8, skip past the older Porsche's, the maintenance alone will murder you.

The kids are 8 and 9. So one shotgun then room for 1 in the rear behind her. We take the wife's SUV every weekend, so pretty rare I have 4 people in the car. 90% of the time me solo, the other 10% 1 or 2 kids with me.

It has four bucket seats. I think you mean it's long.

No rear seats in 991 GT3 and most all but the earliest 997 GT3. Only going to get a higher mileage out of warranty one for $100k

Pretty sure you can add rear seats back in the 997.

Seems like the whole "numb feel, too clinical, not raw enough" discussions are happening over in 991 land also. Don't be so quick to rule out the old ones just because they are out of warranty, in my opinion.

CTS-V Wagon with Manual 6-speed and get a Ligenfelter 650 Kit with a full Kooks exhaust and header system. You wont spend no where close to what your budget is and will have a V8 muscle car sound with a whine that will light up them rear tires, all while carrying your whole family comfortably. The magna-ride will keep you tight planted in the turns and the bonus is that you wont see one that often. Lets not forget the much lower maintenance compared to the other cars folks have mentioned.

I had my 997TT for only three years because of my kids. I got it when the youngest was barely of booster age (older one is 2 years older). Three years later, they were complaining of not seeing anything (solid rear seats), being cramped, and car could hardly hold the 3 backpacks (mine for work) on the passenger seat, and they got tired of climbing in and out.

Looking forward to an F80.

I agree on this point. I've added a 997 GTS to my list. When I drove the 991.2 base it had a bit of an isolated feeling similar to the F80. Definitely felt held back a bit. While more comfortable to drive not as involved as I would have guessed.

Ah, good point. I guess the challenges with kids never go away...they just take on different forms.

Same scenario as you, except my kids at 10 and 8. For me, the Ultimate DD is my Porsche Turbo. Kids easily fit in the rear seats. I am 5' 11" and it works for now.
