M3/M4 vs GTR

I'm FBO with jb4 and run e30 mix but haven't ran a GTR yet. Curious to see if any of you guys ran any GTRs and with what mods, what was the outcome?

From a roll, that is. Off the line, it's all GTR.

Hard to find a stock one that wants to race us. I tend to stay away from them.

when you guys say "Full Bolt on" do you mean with a JB4? I didnt think just an Intake, DP & exhaust would pull on a GTR?

Yeah downpipes, midpipes, jb4 map 7, e30 blend, and drop in filters.

That is true they have the awd advantage, but weigh a good 400lbs+ more.

You guys need to remember GTRs are like "FBO" 335i's they are wildly different in meanings and how each person classifies them. Just cause you beat some supreme clothes wearing Dbag with baby injectors and a flame map tune and Front mount... Doesn't mean a well protuned e85 1300cc injector GTR is going to be the same.

Looks like you have both, how would you compare the two?

Incomparable.

The M4 did everything well (great technology, mine was 82k sticker only thing I missed was CCB), where the GTR does a few things GREAT. My modifications were limited to alpha testing for Terry. So I can't comment on how one with say an SSP clutch, or Meth, Turbos etc. would feel/ do.

My GTR makes 1400+ so again not really able to apples to apples it.

I enjoyed the GTR far more, and its ability to make it your own in any direction you want will always have a place in my heart. That said after tons of GTR driving, getting into the M4 feels like you're in an S-Class. So much comfort. GTR is a rougher riding version of my E92 M3. You hear the rocks hitting the rocker panels it makes odd noises [even before I put a shep stage 4 trans in it].

Its technology is beyond dated. Any time in a current car, hell even a current civic. Shows how much they've aged [this changed with the 2017, I've heard they are amazing from owners compared to older ones], anything up until then is noticeably dated... You're basically buying it to be a fancy pants race car with great reliability up until about 1300whp, or you drive an Evo/ STi and now have equity and ability to finance another 30-60k].

But back to racing... The GTR is much like the 335i cost to mod once you're in one is pennies for the "FBO" level, because most people instantly want more and more and more. So getting downpipes, Cobb AP, 1000-1300cc injectors, intake, mid pipe [big restriction] or full exhaust, e85 pumps/ flex fuel, and street fmic [I ran low 9s without even doing a big FMIC on 23psi lol] can be had for less than 4k, because people constantly want more... If you shop around and aren't trying to show off with big name parts. And you'll run LOW LOW 10s, maybe 9.99s if you get aggressive/focus on tires...

If I needed to move lots of people, or tech geek, or didn't care about racing, I'd pick m4 over any 09-16 GTR any day of the week...

If I wanted to race lots, just needed some decent sound/ nav to use [my ears couldn't tell a difference from my M5 B&O and the Bose in my DBA 13], and planned on modding, and wanted a more limited car, asI believe they've yet to crack 15k units lifetime for the GTR and we know there are more M3/M4s out there than that likely within 2-3 years lol. I'd get the GTR.

One thing to add the community of the GTR is changing now that its more affordable for fanboys to get their hands on them (like my comment about equity sti/Evo owners). Much like the 335i community before they became sub 20k cars, now you go to n54page its all bros with 7-15k cars trying to make 600whp for 500 bucks lol... Its changing for the worse, but I guess you could say that about any community supra, etc.

Rolled on GTR tonight on freeway, thought it be closer but from 70-140mph i was many cars ahead near the end and pulled on him around 100mph and on. It was stock looking, i have full boltons and bm3. Very impressed with bm3 and skyline guy was shocked himself he didn't to go again when i was slowing to a normal speed. Happened on 405/605 freeway interchange going onto the 605N. Im only on 91 octane as well.
