Gintani Race E90 Rear Section - Sold
Sold! Lightly used Gintani Race E90 rear section. Looks nearly new! Has custom Helmholtz chambers professionally & beautifully TIG welded to greatly reduce the drone that occurs with Gintani's setup. I've had this both with and without cats, and it sounds great either way. Without cats, it's LOUD! But man does it scream and sound amazing. It's much more bassy at low speeds than other exhausts, but opens up at WOT and is one of the smoothest, raciest sounding exhausts you'll hear. "Sounds like a race car" is the most common comment from people. My dogs knew I was coming home from at least 1/2 mile away. I've since swapped back to OEM exhaust to make the ride plush and as close to 0dB as possible for the new little person on the way... Sold! Here's a video comparison of my Gintani Race (with cats, before the Helmholtz were added), OEM, OEM mod and Active Signature (all with cats as well). I need this gone! Just tore apart the underside of my car, and confirmed that my driveshaft u-joints are garbage. I'd love to sell this to fund a new driveshaft and rear upper control arms... Alternatively, if you know of a good deal on a driveshaft, let me know!

The chambers help to reduce the drone that occurs on the stock units around 2200-3400rpm, which just about rattles your teeth out. With the chambers installed, the drone inside moves down in the rev range, such that when cruising on the highway at ~3200rpm it's much more tolerable. Still just a little droney, but enough to get the wife to stop complaining! The overall sound of the exhaust from the outside doesn't change whatsoever, and if you're keeping the revs up around town or on the track, there's no drone at all!
The chambers were built and welded on by the guy who used to design Active exhausts, and as you can see, he knows how to weld - the welds look better than the Gintani factory welds. |

Also, since I've gotten a couple questions on it now:
The tips on an E92 exhaust are slightly longer (40mm according to Gintani, thanks to another member). Gintani custom builds the exhaust, so you select on their website which tips you want when you order. Since these are E90, they will be slightly shorter on an E92. Depending on how far they look to stick out on my car, they might be OK on an E92 as well. I'm not going to say it'll work perfectly, but other than the tip length, E92 and E90 are identical. Maybe someone else can chime in with their experience - how does an E90 tip look on an E92? Is it hidden far under the rear valance, or does it still look alright? Here's one, which is a comparison between a few different exhausts. The GoPro is pretty poor at capturing the bassy sounds at low engine speeds, but it gives a nice idea how smooth it is as you stretch it out (Gintani starts at 1:17):
And another, shot from outside (very short though...) |
