Steering wheel vibration when turning in low or no speed for 2015 w Active Steering
Hi All,
I just bought a 2015 X5 35i with about 15K miles. It has M-sport, 20' wheel and ACTIVE STEERING. Since I got the car, I feel the steering wheel vibrate when turning in low or no speed such as turning in parking lot or stop at traffic light and turn the steering wheel. The vibration is very obvious both turning left or right and turning back to center, especially turning slowly. It feels like the steering wheel is trying hard to turn the wheel/tire but does not have enough power. I took it to Irvine BMW and a very nice shop foreman took a test drive with me. He can definitely feel the vibration but he is not sure if it is normal for the car with AS. He wants to compare to a new or used one with AS but was not able to locate one, especially when BMW dicountinues AS option in 2017 model. I compared a new car with same size of wheel and with M-sport, it turns buttery smooth. I have a E92 m3, and owned 2012 535 with M-sport, 2008 X5 with AS, 2007 X5 w/o AS, 2005 645i w AS, none of them have that vibration at all regardless the condition of the tire. Does anyone here own a F15 X5 with AS? Can someone please help me finding out if this is the nature of the AS for F15 X5? I am totally confused as AS should help turning the wheel easier not harder with vibration. Thanks a lot!!! |

I have a 2015 with AS. There is absolutely no vibration with the steering at all at any speeds. It sounds like there is definitely a problem with the AS.

There shouldn't be any vibration.
On an unrelated note, is renovation finished @Irvine BMW?
