I'M BACK!

So I have a 340I on order. M3's were scarce, and the 340 with M-sport and track pack seemed promising, a very good compromise as an everyday driver.

My car is not due in for at least another month, and I was at the dealership getting the oil changed on my 535i. I enjoy being at the dealership as over the years I have become friends with folks in both sales and service.

As I was relaxing with the sales manager having lunch, a delivery of I3's and a sweet I8 pulls up. As the electric cars are getting unloaded, I notice a white/black M3 on the truck. The sales manager laughs and says to me "there is your next car"...

Well they drove the car off the truck and into the shop and did about a half hour of prep before bringing it around to the sales parking area. The grey 18 inch wheels that I would never consider looked awesome in person, as did all the carbon fiber mirrors and rear diffuser. The car has the passive suspension, and a 6 speed manual. I was concerned... no adaptive M suspension, no dual clutch, no 19's..... but when I got in and fired it up all the sudden those things didn't matter. The seats were covered in plastic, no mats, and the outside of the car was still covered in that white shipping shrink wrap.

The new stick and clutch are smooth... the notchiness of the e90 stick is gone. The active suspension is firm but not harsh and has a planted, authentic feel that seems to be lost in any of the active set up's 3 or 4 modes. The 18's with the MPSS are comfortable and sticky. With just 4 miles, I kept things under 4K on the tach, but the pull of the engine and impeccable handling were immediately intoxicating. I drove it about 10 miles and returned, knowing that I was going to be getting back into an M.

We pulled the car into the back garage... the out of the way don't go near these cars garage and they put a sold sticker on the dash before we ever sat to discuss price.

They are going to tint it for me on Monday and I'll pick it up wednesday or thursday. If I ordered an M it would never have 18's, a passive suspension and a manual.... but I could not be more excited about this car.

I put another 50 miles on it today and it is simply awesome. This is the first car Iv'e bought off the lot (well in this case off the truck) in many, many years. I'm used to 3 and 4 month waits. I'll have my car at home by next Wednesday and I'm back in the world of M.

Great way to get an M, and you'll be much happier than the 340. Congrats and post pics once you get it.

I know the feeling! I had my 340i M Sport with Track Handling Package for 3 months before I traded it for a M3. Just couldn't resist!

It's funny, I never would have done 18s...but after seeing them in person I absolutely love them more than the 19s. I get comments from everyone on them and they have a masculine look to them with the thick rubber and Porsche gt3 look to them. I wouldn't trade them and they're so damn light too!

Congrats on the new car, awesome way to purchase one haha

Congrats. Yep that is one reason I avoid the dealership. I want everything new. A M3 with 6MT, 18s and passive will be awesome. Post up some pictures when you get your new ride.

My dealership just received a black/black M3 with a 6 speed manual pretty much fully loaded. If anyone is interested let me know and I will hook you up with one of the best dealers around. MSRP on the car was 77K =/-
