Key fob warranty

The paint has chipped off of the BMW logo on my key fob. Do you think this is covered under the new car warranty?

I was told that's considered fair wear and tear. Bought a replacement sticker off eBay.

I'm interested in finding a replacement key fob housing. The buttons are fine, but when my X5 was in the shop being Xpel wrapped, they apparently dropped the key several times, and now the aluminum trim has scratches and pits. The removable physical key portion is fine. I haven't been able to locate the part number(s) for the fob assembly.

The aluminum trim on the key is very soft.. I recommend getting a keyfob cover when you have the trim replaced.

Sucks for sure. I've dropped my keys a few times and always cringe when it happens. I agree with the above, probably deemed wear and tear from BMW, although if the damage isn't indicative of a drop, you never know. Worst case, you can swap to your other key...I did that on my Audi after dropping the key and kicking it across a parking lot (by accident of course). The damaged key fob went into the drawer and out came the 'new' one.

I dropped mine on the floor out on the street and it got a few starches and it kills me to look at them. So I bought a cover the next day so if it does fall it won't hurt the key itself bought it white just the same as the car

I do believe I saw an ad once for just the aluminum parts of the fob. The seller was touting it as an upgrade for non-MSport fobs. Will have to do some searching/digging.
You can always try to find the part number yourself via realoem or etk.cc

Generally, anything cosmetic, including rust buildup unless it eats completely through metal, is considered general wear and tear as far as warranty replacement.
The same cannot be said for any damage done to the vehicle as some, who have not opted for lease-end protection, have found out when turning in vehicles.

Sorry To revive a really old thread but I did purchase a new housing but can't figure out how to open my current one without breaking it. Anyone know off hand if the m sport housing opens up and must it be cut open?
