Airbag Recall

FYI - just received Takata airbag recall for driver's side (one of gazillion vehicles). Looks like MY'16 is on the list.

Of course no parts available. My guess is fall/winter @ best. In the meantime I now have a personal IED on wheels...

Why would BMW use their airbags on 2016 MY when there were aware of all their recalls?? Is there no other manufacturer of airbags?

The 13 35d, got rid of. Good riddance... Salesman said would not be
able to resell till airbags replaced. So they have X5 trades just sitting on
the back lot

Today I got a letter for Recall Campaign #16V-071. It mentions X5s from 2006-2015 but does not specifically say if this is about my wife's 2008 4.8i X5 or my 2015 5.0i X5 (11/11/15 build) or both.

As others have noted, the parts are not available but they will notify me when they are.

Edited to say a VIN is noted so this is for my 2008 4.8i X5, not my 2015 X5.

No recalls on mine yet, MY15 X5 35D, production date 8/4/2014

I'm surprised a 2016 X5 is included?

On the other hand my other honda isn't so lucky. No parts til summer.

Can you verify if the notice you received is for F15?
Latest BMW information states F15 is NOT included in the Takata recall or Campaign #16V-071 as of April 2016:

BMW should have switched airbag suppliers a while ago, this Takata recall is not new!

like said heard from a Salesman, BMW is paying the dealership to let the affected
trades sit on the back lot. So even if a year, they will be well compensated.

So i asked if this is affecting the low ball trade offer. OH NO, LOL LOL
Think they are using it as a tool, when they are being paid to hold

I meant it's not new in general, most of these airbag recalls started back in 2013-2014. BMW could have switched suppliers a while ago and not risk it but I guess $ talks.

so the question still remains... those who claimed they received airbag recall notices. was it for your f15 or another vehicle? at this point there does not seem to be one affected f15 in the US/NAR according to BMWUSA.

I've posted this a while back too and the F15 X5 is not affected by the recall.

Text on Car & Driver's website:

UPDATE 2/10/2016, 11:30 a.m.: Audi, BMW, and Volkswagen are recalling some 1.7 million U.S.-market vehicles for potentially defective Takata-sourced driver’s-side airbags.

BMW is recalling 840,000 vehicles from 2006 through 2015; these vehicles weren’t among the roughly 765,000 that BMW had previously recalled for Takata airbags. The BMWs involved are: 2006–2011 3-series sedan and M3, 2006–2012 3-series wagon, 2007–2013 3-series and M3 coupe and convertible, 2007–2010 X3, 2007–2013 X5, 2008–2013 1-series coupe and convertible, 2008–2014 X6, and 2013–2015 X1.

The Volkswagen-branded vehicles, numbering 680,000, are from 2006 through 2014. The VWs involved are: 2009–2014 CC, 2010–2014 Jetta SportWagen and Golf, 2012–2014 Eos and U.S.-built Passat sedan, and 2006–2010 German-built Passat sedan and wagon.
