What do you want to see from the X7?

I saw that question on a bmw blog and I thought that it would be interesting to see what the x5 fans of this forum answer...

http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/03/19/want-see-bmw-x7/

Personally I would go for more leg space, more luxury cabin and a better steering...

LOL at the title of the article which reads "What do you want the see from the BMW X7?" Personally, I'm not really interested in a bigger X5...

I'm curious to see how well this vehicle will do though

out of the germans the 4L Q7 was always the alternative to a larger X5 and if you needed more people looked into the GL.

i am curious to see the outcome and how far they take this... especially if it is set to compete against a Full-Fat RR.

I've read another article today hinting on a M version as well with a V12 engine.

I see so many GLs in my area, it's unreal. At least 10 everyday. If BMW releases the X7, which I think will be a direct competitor to the GL model, it would do very well. An X7M, similar to the GL63 AMG, would be absolutely bonkers but would still sell well for those looking for both extra trunk space and/or seating space and performance.

i see them everywhere as well. it is one of the more popular SUV in our area. it is just so damn big and cumbersome to drive. i considered it before buying the Q7 and while the features are very nice it's just too big for me.

I never really understood the appeal of SUV's like the Escalade or the GL, until I took rented a full sized SUV for a day.
I was only in Florida with 6 family member and booked a Ford explorer online. When I got to the rental place, they offered me an Infiniti QX for $30 more so I took it.

The moment I stepped in the car, I immediately noticed how spacious and comfortable it was. The X5 is comfortable, but sitting in the QX offered the comfort of a Lazy Boy recliner.
There was more room every where. More rear leg room, head room, shoulder room...

Under the hood, there was a 5.6 Liter V8 with 400hp and 418lbft of tq, but it was clear this huge truck wasn't hauling ass, which is fine, because that's not the point of the car. It a truck that hauls kids, and luggage, and furniture around.

Everyone loved how much personal space they had. It got us from point A to point B in a relaxed manner. I even thought to myself that one day I can own one of these living room-on-wheels.

Personally I think a X7 wouldn't be ruled out for me, if affordable.

Back to the question:

Random things I think would be nice:

Decent Luggage space behind third row (achievable if car has two smaller mufflers instead of one large transverse muffler like the X5. That would allow the spare tire to be placed lower)

Heated windshield (I hate the windshield defroster. It dries out my eyes)

LED's headlights standard and affordable Laser Option.

22" Wheel Options

In my area GLs and Q7s are equally popular. I would consider the one with a largest 3rd row

The new generation Q7 looks amazing too. Too bad you can't buy diesel

Dude that Infiniti QX/Nissan Armada...it opened my eyes as well. I rented one in Colorado winter for a few days. It feels as roomy as a Ford Econoline church van

I need a bigger second row because my seat is all the ways back (I'm 6-5) and my 2 year old kicks my seat. And I need to be able to haul a stroller and lots of my wife's luggage for a weekend... 3rd row, nope. Just more storage and room for legs. My X5 $82k, X7 $92k ☹️ That's getting crazy.

If the X7 is priced like the 7 Series, as the X5 is priced like the 5 series, a 92k X7 will get you the 3 liter 6.

I like the idea of an x7 but it will be really pricey if you consider the 7 series base price. I see a lot of gl's around here also and tons of gle/ml's which I think make them very bland. May end up with the xc90 for my people hauler/wife's car with two growing kids as they seem to be good bang for the buck.

These extra large SUV are great passenger cars and get you from point a to point b in comfort and some of them in luxury however living in NYC it is a nightmare to drive. Driving my Full-Fat RR-SC (Land Yacht) in Manhattan is a chore and half and the parking lots charge you nearly double for an oversized vehicle. If our primary residence was in an more suburban area or rural area I would not hesitate on going with an RR long wheel base or GL. Hell even the new Escalade is pretty damn good but overpriced for an American-Luxo-Barge.

The only viable ways to distinguish the X7 from the X5 are:

- Make it larger
- Make standard some of the options/packages
- Add more power

What would be nice to see:

- Full electric or a hybrid variant with a significant electric-only range
- Real use of carbon fiber for weight saving and rigidity like the i3, i8 and the new 7. Not looking forward to decorative CF pieces that are just form.

2015+ i really dig. the changes and updates really improved the vehicle. i have not driven it yet but i have sat in a few and it is a major step forward for the brand.

i wager a lot of aluminum and plastic in there for the weight savings. cf may push the price point way higher than most are willing to pay.

Same here other than the 7 foot tall taillights.

For me/us, more usable 3rd row seats and significantly more room in the second row. The X5's 3rd row seat just won't work for us and as soon as my wife sat in the back of a GL550, she was sold and the X5 was no longer an option in our shopping.
