X-Line Sport Steering wheel vs No-Line wheel.
So I got caught up in the factory f$%k-up of last summer. They made two cars for me...same options...just one was no-line, the other was X-Line.
the No-Line had the 20" 451 Y-spokes (with flares) as a N/C option (I shit you not!)!!! So long story short I took the No-Line $2900 less expensive (for just the x-line trim)...so I thought. So...I hate the small diameter "grip" of the no-line wheel. Can I upgrade to the x-line "sport" wheel? I am looking for heated. I have looked around, and can not find one for sale, or a part number. Any help would be awesome! thanks! Martin |

Sure can swap it in. You can even go to the Msport wheel and have the paddles turned on via coding if you like. Someone else should chime in with the part #...

@mdallas , yes you can retrofit that.
I never done the non-heated to heated steering wheel retrofit, but I have read somewhere that it can be done. Let me know if you need a quote though.

I think only the M-sport has a different steering wheel with paddle shifters.

The above pictures are correct. The xLine comes with a sport steering wheel which has the two raised grip areas at 10 and 2 that is different from the no line wheel. Just FYI since it seems unclear here, the xLine comes with the following:
Sport steering wheel. Aluminum running boards. 449 wheels. Satin aluminum exterior trim. Satin aluminum roof rails. Silver matte grill. Silver matte bumper inserts.

The 2016 North American order guide shows:
255 Sport Steering Wheel ... is common to the no-line, Luxury Line, and X-line cars. When you get M sport, you get 710 M Steering Wheel Now, that may be model year specific... maybe in earlier years the "base" wheel was used on no-line cars. EPC does show the plain base wheel too.

Jon, I wonder if it's not a MY based difference but rather a model difference. (or both?) Perhaps the 50 comes with it but not the 35 like the HK audio for example? Just throwing out a WAG as I really don't know...
What also seems strange to me is that they specifically mention the sport steering wheel as an included option when you order the xLine. If it's common on the no line cars, why are they saying it's part of the xLine package?

The way I am reading it is all NA 2016 cars, from the sDrive35i to the xDrive50i, regardless of No Line, X Line, or Luxury Line, all come with the 255 sport wheel standard. I know the website says you get a sport wheel with X Line or Luxury line, but the order guide does not confirm that. Technically, you do get a sport wheel when you order X Line or Luxury line, but you already got that as standard with the No Line car... Here is a 2016 No Line car, and it has the sport wheel: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-X5-sDriv...m=331738922422 Here is a 2016 X Line car, and it has the same wheel: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-X5-xDriv...m=331731401546

Interesting. Perhaps the verbiage is from previous MY's where it was not standard line wide as you previously suggested? Not the mystery of the century, just a curiosity...

Sure enough. Looking at 2014 Model Year:
Xline has sport wheel: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-X5-xDriv...m=281966839577 No Line has the non-sport wheel RGSport showed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-X5-sDriv...m=272173462049 This was part of our rationale for ordering a 2016 No Line car, the sport wheel is already there.

Nice! I show that as a N/C item on my build sheet. I didn't think it was the same as the X-line or Luxury-Line. thank you for the info. Last edited by mdallas; 03-17-2016 at 10:30 AM.. |

Yea, seems like the base steering wheel only available on the first production year.

Ben sold me an M sport wheel for my X Line 2016 X5. My factory Sport Wheel was used for less than 100 miles. I have the sport steering wheel with airbag which is from my X line to sell if you want.
