M Performance Parts
For those that added M Performance parts on your X5, did you get the front splitter, rear lip spoiler and the rear diffuser? I know BMW recommends getting all 3 in conjunction with one another for aerodynamics but I wanted to check with you guys. Thanks!

I have all the carbon parts mentioned, but put on at different times. I don't think it affects performance as a daily driver if you just do some of the mods.

I have just got some of the M Performance parts installed. Due to budget reasons I am installing them separately over the next couple of months.
The BMW dealership based on BMW's recommendation to install 1.the SPOILER FRT BUMPER M PERF CARB in conjunction with the Spoiler roof M performance. 2. The FLAPS Right and Left M PERFORMANCE 3. Last to install the DIFFUSOR M PERFORMANCE |

BMW recommends to get all three to make money. It's a 5000 lb brick. You think a splitter on the front is going to make any appreciable difference at under 100mph? Nope.

Exactly, it is stick on bling - BMW recommends you give them more money whenever possible, but any aerodynamic benefit is someones imagination - actually the front splitter probably makes it less aerodynamic, but it looks awesome!

Yep - unbelievable on top of unbelievable. To make it more unbelievable, some pay unbelievable money to put this on their leased cars - that they have to hand back!

Not really.. Leased cars always have an option to be kept if the owners wants... You can also sell it to anyone you desired and pay off the car.. Oh and you can also uninstall some parts and resell it here

Selling the lease car to someone else is actually a great idea if you can find a buyer, and you've paid down the depreciation to the point of the blue book value of the car to make it competitively priced. Selling the parts, which will be at a significant discount - maybe 50% of new - is not bad and I guess will not be too unbelievable...

Wasn't leasing devised as a profit center for the dealer/manufacturer to make more money by offering an incentive (ie. tax deduction) for wealthier clients who would have normally paid cash?
When I ran the numbers of a sale vs lease, it appeared to me to only make sense to lease if you own a business and can take the deduction. Many people lease for the wrong reasons. Back on track... I love the carbon fiber jewelry. And yes we paid for a luxury suv, but I like to think I paid for a superior product overall. I would buy every piece of carbon fiber they make, if they were more reasonably priced. I want the front splitter, I think it looks awesome, but it also pains me when I think we are sticking this elaborate made lightweight carbon fiber aerodynamic piece on a plastic bumper. Hell the entire front end is plastic... even the front fenders are a plastic/composite material. |
