Ha - a little too fast on the tying. Its a e92 and is Interlagos on Silver. Just minor cosmetic mods (IND markers and Eibach springs). Otherwise stock. New transmission (under warranty) 12 months back.

On a trade, they really won't care about service records or even the accidents thing (unless it's obviously been in something severe). They might flaunt that when listing the car, but when it comes time to give you cash, you won't see an extra dime.

Unless you are getting a huge sales tax savings on the trade, just sell it privately and you'll get a few thousand more.

Trade in is always a loss but you save some on taxes on the new car. He could have probably got 27k from a private party but then again cars aren't selling well right now just go look in the for sale section of this forum. Lots of bumps but very few sales. It would have taken him time and hassle of dealing with potential buyers, PPI's etc. Sometimes people don't want the hassle.

I could be wrong, but you don't save taxes on the new car if you're trading in in california right?

I may be wrong as well but I think it offsets the Value. Buy a 30k car from dealer, trade yours in for 20k then you only pay sales tax on 10k instead of 30k?
