E92 2011 ZCP 6MT - Maintenance worry
I found my unicorn but after some due diligence, I found a major concern that is keeping me from moving forward. The service history pulled by the dealer shows the following.
The image shows the first service performed nearly 1k miles after the 1.2k service. The next and last service record shows it serviced after nearly 25k miles with the car currently siting at ~30k miles. Now I understand that the person may have done their own maintenance but with the BMW maintenance program, why would you not have it done free at the dealership? The car was bought, registered, and now being sold at another dealership within close proximity to each other so its not far to have the car serviced. I also inquired with a reputable indie BMW shop in the area and after they looked at the service history told me to stay away. After finding out all of this information in addition to some other cosmetic issues, my gut feeling tells me to stay away but I wanted to hear your thoughts on this matter. Thanks! PS, Is there anyone on the forums that has access to pull service records? I'd pay to get some information like this to weed out potential cars. Last edited by ppatel14; 09-28-2015 at 07:27 AM.. |

When a BMW dealer does the CPO inspection on a vehicle they plan to sell on their lot, BMW NA will deny CPO an M3/M5 etc if the 1200 mile service was not performed at 1200+- miles. It is that important

A little late as it has been sold, but I would run far, far away. Even if the person did his own maintenance, he surely would not have passed up FREE maintenance in the early years. My old '01 M5 had all its maintenance records in a big stack, and although the owner did additional old-school oil changes between the normal intervals (what a guy), he took it to the dealer for the ones they would cover (so if the computer said to change oil every 15k, he did an additional change at his own expense in between those). That's what you want to see, not changes well beyond the *required* periods. Big no-no.
Can't believe people would buy a ~$70k car and be too lazy to bring it in even remotely on time for FREE maintenance! They're probably thinking "I won't have this car in three years, who cares?" |

It was probably a three year lease car.

When I bought my car, the car fax did not show the 1200 mi service. I pointed this out to the dealer, they showed me the actual service records and it was done at like 1000 miles. They won't CPO a car without it being done, so it was probably done, just doesn't show up sometimes on the car fax.
