Oil level

Hi all,

I have roughly 11,000 miles on my e90. First time I changed my oil myself. After I changed the oil with BMWs new oil, the oil level in the system states I only have mid-level. Is this normal? Why isn't it at max?

I bought 9 bottles which is equivalent to 9.5 liters I believe which is the amount inCluding the filter according to previous threads. Can someone advise if I should add more oil? Or is there something I need to reset in the ECU?

Put down the bottle mate. It takes a good while before the (freakin') system give you an indication. You don't want to overfill.

Cheers

Mid point is perfect. Don't touch it until it tells you to add.

And even then the oil sensor isnt very accurate and precise. If you have already added 9 liters and its in the middle then definitely don't add any more until it says you are down a quart of it gets on min.

Mid point is actually nok ,because when my BMW/Dealer throws in 9.5 liters the oil sensor reader is at 90% of the max level .

When the car was new, it read mid level. Dealer changes have always ended up at top line. Not sure if this helps - I'm no expert just sharing what my car says..

That's what I'm confused about. How are dealer changes at top level but when I change it myself, it's reading mid. Trying to understand what I might've done wrong.

Get the oil level up on the dash and press and hold the BC button on the left stalk. This will recalculate the oil level. If this is still showing half, leave it, and when the message comes up to add a litre of oil then add.

When I do my oil change, I religiously put in 9 litres. Now that I have done just over 1k km since the last change, the oil level has dropped to the half way mark. When I hit 2k or just over, I will get a message to add 1 litre. This has been the pattern with my previous three (3) TWS oil changes. I don't expect anything different. Top up after the first 2k km or over after an oil change.

I ran M1 0w-40 for 3k km and the oil level showed the half way mark. Didn't get the warning. I changed back to TWS due to other concerns. Nothing to do with the oil.
