Motorized noise when I open the door.

After my 135 sits overnight I notice a motorized sound when I open the door to get in. What is that?

It is the fuel pump priming for ignition. Goes off when unlocking the doors as well.

Sounds like the low pressure fuel pump...

Yup.

And draining the battery if you don't lock the doors.

It does? My car just sat for about 1 1/2 weeks, in my garage, without the doors locked and it started up fine. It must not be a big draw then.

That's what the local BMW service advisor told me was one of the reasons why I had a dead battery after only three years.

Still dont know how true that is. I've had my car for nearly 4 years and still have the same battery. Its my DD and when I'm away on business, it sits in the garage for weeks at a time without the doors locked. Maybe I'll check the voltage before and after its sitting the next time I'm gone.

It doesn't make sense to me why that would drain the battery just because the door isn't locked. But I'm sure some engineer will explain why it does and why its good......

Yeah, I wish I knew what was true... The service advisor also said I didn't drive my car enough.

All I know is after three years with my daily driver and my battery was toast.
