being completely familiar with the road you are on when you decide to drive aggressively would probably be a good idea..
I only drive like a hooligan when I know the road completely, when there are no other cars nearby, and never in residential areas. |

You are more than lucky to be alive and not have a totaled car! That's fender bender type damage considering your outrageous speed. I'm glad you are ok and learned something in the process. Speeds like that are only safe at the track.

I mean, you could have just googled if you had a limiter or not.

To be perfectly honest, I have gone well past 110, although I have only once in my life done 167+ on a public road. That was on an empty 4 lane interstate stretch that was very well known to me.
There is a whole debate about driving fast on public roads. I believe it can be done safely. I have been doing it for over 33 years and I am still very much alive and have never come even remotely close to being in a speed related accident. You have to be very careful however, and calculated when you do it. The road must be very well known to you. The road surface must be good and known to you. Needless to say, weather and visibility, especially along the sides of the road must be nothing less than spectacular. The road must be empty of other traffic. You will freak the hell out of someone if you pass them doing any serious kind of speed. I never drive fast with others in the car, and when I am driving really fast, the radio is off. You need to be able to hear every little nuance of sound that your car is making. At that point, go for it. But don't do sustained high speed driving. Short bursts of speed are fine. The whole notion of "save it for the track" is a little unrealistic. How often do most enthusiasts really ever get to make it to a track? You are fortunate if you have the opportunity to do so on any regular basis. Real life gets in the way for most of us, as track schedules are limited and requirements are very stringent and expensive. Anyway, here is the type of road that I would say its okay to stretch your legs on.....

Sound advise. I don't agree that age has anything to do with the actions you do on the road (my humble opinion, of course). I have seen 50 year olds acting like 16 year old drivers on the roads. Be careful out there, and take it to the track.

Sounds like a confluence of bad things. Wonder if you could do that again if you tried.

Those don't look like summer tires to me. So I doubt they were made to handle close to that speed
