Fault:Control iginiter 6 after spark plug change
Hi everyone, I hope someone can help... 2011 E90 M3, 42,000 mi. newly purchased, changed oil/filter, plugs, air filter today.
After changing spark plugs I am now getting these engine codes read from the Carly app: 0. Motor Control: <---------------------------> Engine / Motor: - Fault: check at lower top - Code: 002B57 - Fault: Control igniter 6 - Code: 002756 - Fault: check at lower top - Code: 002796 I switched the coil pack #6 with cylinder 1's (1-4 on passenger side), but the code did not follow the coil. Any idea what this is? I'm also getting reduced power-engine malfunction on dash screen. Thank you! |

002B57 - Mass air flow sensor
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...735033&page=11 Try resetting the CEL and see if the bad coil moves to cyl 1. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply!
I also saw that post, but the S65 (from what I've read) uses an alpha-n system and does not have a MAF. A realoem search came up with no listings for MAF either. I cleared the codes before and after, I have even replaced that #6 sparkplug with another and no change. The same faults reappear each time. I wondering if an electrical plug is not seated correctly somewhere? Or if part of my DME died concurrently with changing the plugs? Is the injector part of the problem? Re-flash of DME? Is anyone familiar with these codes, or know what "ignition control 6" would point me to? Also, can anyone confirm that ignition 6 means the drivers side, second cylinder back from front of car? Want to make sure I'm looking at the correct spot. Thank you! |

Solution found! The #2 spark plug had come from BMW. The others from ECS (one plug had dropped out of the box and I decided not to use it out of caution) The DME must not have liked something about the BMW plug in relation to the others. I replaced with one from Oreily's and all is well. The #2 cylinder is fired just prior to the #6 and I'm guessing the DME got confused with what ever is different between that plug and the others even though all are the same part number and appear identical in markings.
Hopefully this helps someone with the same ignition symptom. |
